Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes is just getting started with leading the company in a new direction. A popular AEW star recently opened up about their relationship with The American Nightmare. This was none iother than Good Ol' JR.

Cody changed the landscape of WWE by defeating Roman Reigns for the title at WrestleMania XL. The booking brought about a massive change in the Stamford-based wrestling promotion as the title changed hands after more than three years.

AEW commentator Jim Ross was one of the men who was ecstatic following The American Nightmare’s big win. He opened up about his relationship with Cody Rhodes on a recent episode of Grilling JR. He drew back on the origin of their relationship and praised Rhodes for his work over the years.

"I love that kid," Ross stated. "God almighty, his ornery little a** was always [as] Mama Rhodes would allow him to; he'd come with Dusty to TV and things of that nature. Good kid, love the kid. He's got a heart of gold, and he worked his a** off to get to that point [on WrestleMania 40 Night Two] to have the match."

It must be noted that Cody Rhodes was somewhat responsible for bringing Jim Ross to AEW when the promotion started out. JR echoed his appreciation for The American Nightmare during the chat.

"He came out to my house in Oklahoma," said Ross, "to do some vignettes. He took it seriously, hiring JR, and I really appreciated that." [H/T - Wrestling Inc.]

Jim Ross has the perfect idea for Cody Rhodes’ Undisputed WWE Championship defense

Jim Ross has never shied away from voicing his opinion on the wrestling industry and it's happenings. The veteran recently pitched a top storyline that could do wonders in WWE.

JR noted that a rivalry between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton would go a long way. The two second-generation superstars could work on something captivating for the fans.

"That's a match people would wanna see, Randy vs. Cody. Two second-generation guys, two guys who came into WWE at a somewhat connected timeline (...) The great thing about WWE for them right now is that they built some depth. So there are a lot of possibilities for Cody's first world title opponent. So we'll see how it goes. They got a lot of choices."

It’ll be interesting to see who faces off against The American Nightmare on WWE SmackDown. He could give some upcoming superstars a shot at his title to increase its value. But all this would have to wait as he will face off against the winner of the LA Knight vs. AJ Styles match this Friday Night at Backlash: France in a couple of weeks in his first title defense.
