Alberto Del Rio vs Kurt Angle
This dream match is going to take place next year

2016 has been the year of the arrival of new superstars for WWE with the likes of AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Bobby Roode and many more finally making their way into the biggest wrestling company in the world. However, while these superstars have finally become a part of the limelight of WWE, some others have also parted ways with it.

Stars like Damien Sandow or Cody Rhodes have found success on the independent circuit after bidding goodbye to the WWE Ring and with the latest announcement from WCPW, it looks like another superstar could be added to this list very soon.

The independent wrestling promotion has announced that former WWE star Alberto Del Rio, who now wrestles with the name Alberto El Patron will be colliding with former WWE and TNA star Kurt Angle during WCPW's True Destiny Event in the United Kingdom on February 12th, 2017.

This is going to one of the rare occasions when we will see two former WWE World Champions wrestling each other outside a WWE ring. You can watch the promo for the match below:

Alberto Del Rio left WWE in September earlier this year following a 30-day suspension from the company for violation of their wellness policy. The former WWE star used the opt-out clause in his contract which allowed him to leave the company if he was unhappy with his position.

Following his release, Del Rio claimed that he was given empty promises by officials when he made his return in October 2015. According to him, he was promised a main event push and a pairing with Paul Heyman among others upon his return.

On the other hand, Kurt Angle was released from WWE back in August 2006. After his WWE departure, he became a prominent face for the rival promotion of WWE, TNA, where he stayed for almost 10 years before being released from there in March this year.

There were lots of rumours of Angle returning for Royal Rumble after WWE wished him on his birthday through social media, but with the latest announcement from WCPW, it looks less likely that officials would allow Kurt to make a comeback at Rumble when he has an independent date set after the event.
