Cody Rhodes shocked the wrestling world when he returned to WWE in 2022 shortly after leaving the promotion he helped launch in 2019 - AEW. What many see as even more of a surprise is the dynamic between Rhodes and Triple H. The American Nightmare is now revealing the inside scoop.

The American Nightmare actually took shots at The Game in the early days of AEW. However, they have seemingly managed to put any potential differences behind them in this new era of WWE. Rhodes has been pushed from the start - he was booked with a winning streak of 43 TV and live event matches, from his WrestleMania 38 return win over Seth Rollins to the WrestleMania 39 loss to Roman Reigns.

Speaking to Busted Open Radio, the world champion looked back on his recent success and admitted he is "incredibly lucky," and acknowledged that there is "a little ego" that he brings.

Co-host Bully Ray said it's nice to have an ego as humble doesn't sell tickets, and then he asked the former AEW TNT Champion if he feels like he's hitting on all cylinders, or if there's a part of his game that he thinks he needs to bring to the forefront.

"I look in the mirror and I kind of tell myself the same thing. I used to [say], 'Hey, wake up and be the best wrestler in the world.' That was just what I would say in my head. Now it's, 'Be the best champion in the world today.' I do feel like we're hitting on all cylinders," Cody Rhodes said. [H/T WrestlingNewsCo]

Rhodes continued and praised longtime WWE referee John Cone, who also works as Senior Manager of Talent Relations, and WWE President Nick Khan. Regarding the Chief Content Officer, Triple H, Rhodes revealed their "unique player-coach relationship," and reiterated how they're firing on all cylinders these days.

"The team I have on the road, there's some incredible people who help prop me up. I'll give flowers to John Cone, who helped put me in the right [hotel] rooms. Nick Khan has been such an exceptional leader. Clearly, Triple H and I have a really unique player-coach relationship that I would have never anticipated, him calling the plays and me being able to run them. I do feel like I'm hitting on all cylinders," Cody Rhodes said.

Cody Rhodes set for major WWE Championship defense

Cody Rhodes is set to defend the WWE Championship against Logan Paul in a Champion vs. Champion bout at the King and Queen of the Ring PLE in Saudi Arabia on Saturday.

Paul's WWE United States Championship will not be on the line in the first-time-ever match. Both titles were expected to be up for grabs at one point, in a Winner Takes All stipulation, but The Maverick swerved Rhodes and Nick Aldis on SmackDown last week.

Friday's contract signing segment included a spot where The American Nightmare destroyed one of Paul's lackeys. The man taken out by Cody Rhodes was later revealed to be a heavyweight champion wrestler from the indies.
