In 2023, Jey Uso became a singles star and slowly established his presence as Main Event Jey on the red brand. The 39-year-old star finally reached the top of the card when he won the Men's Royal Rumble match and dethroned Gunther at WrestleMania 41.

However, the dream run ended on Monday Night RAW when The Ring General recaptured the title. Speaking on Behind The Turnbuckle, former WWE employee Tommy Carlucci said Main Event Jey probably needs to take time off, as he could be dealing with injuries.

"I actually like Gunther right now. I think Jey's probably taking a little time off with these injuries, so-called injuries that he's had. So, maybe he's going to do that. We will see," Carlucci said. (From 05:07 to 05:15)

Gunther breaks character to praise Jey Uso after WWE RAW

Earlier this year, Gunther underestimated Jey Uso heading into WrestleMania 41, which cost him the World Heavyweight Championship in Las Vegas. However, The Ring General was prepared for their second encounter in 2025 and recaptured the title on WWE RAW.

Speaking on RAW Recap, the new World Heavyweight Champion broke character and spoke highly of Jey Uso as a performer now compared to the previous times he's faced him inside the ring.

"I've got to give it to Jey Uso. I think everybody that is heading into a match with me is considered the underdog, especially Jey before WrestleMania 41, because I've beaten him 3-4 times before that... And I've got to give it to him; I think he stepped up. I think he fulfilled a lot of hopes and expectations that people had in him," Gunther said.
