WWE Superstar R-Truth returned to the company at Money in the Bank and cost John Cena his tag match against Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso. The 53-year-old had announced earlier in the month that he would be released following the expiry of his contract. Hence, his appearance on the Los Angeles show drew a massive pop from the crowd.
Ever since news broke out that Truth would be released from WWE, fans chanted his name every week, urging the company to bring him back. Chants of 'We Want Truth' were heard at every event, and ultimately, he came back to his old stomping ground and attacked Cena.
Going by Ron Killings now, he cut a heartfelt promo on this week's episode of RAW, but didn't mention John Cena. However, the 17-time world champion name-dropped Truth on the show, and former writer Vince Russo explained why this was happening on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Legion of RAW.
''Because Cena's doing and saying what he wants to say and Truth is getting scripted by the writers," Russo said. [From 1:10:12 onwards]
On being asked what the whole storyline between Cena and Truth meant, Russo said the former 24/7 Champion's attack on The Franchise Player was simply booked to generate a pop.
"I don't think it meant anything at all [about Truth attacking Cena] because that was just for a pop. They're not going nowhere with it," Russo said. [From 1:09:44 onwards]
Ron Killings is being presented as a more serious and no-nonsense character on WWE television since his return. It is a far cry from what the R-Truth character was, and to signal the shift, Killings even cut off his trademark dreadlocks on this week's episode of RAW.
