Paige's recent bookings prove that WWE doesn't care about its Divas division

A year back, the WWE Divas division was headed by AJ Lee who had the charisma and skills to be in the WWE Hall of Fame one day just like Lita and Trish Stratus.

She carried the WWE Divas title for almost a year while struggling to have a credible storyline during that period. At WrestleMania AJ single handedly defeated the entire divas division to retain the title which made it clear that she is miles away from rest of the divas.

Left a big void

On the night which followed WWE introduced a new diva to the main roster fans: Paige.

For people who didn’t know Paige, she was just the NXT Women champion who interrupted AJ Lee and won her title. But for the rest, she was the most polished diva that WWE had at their disposal.

Having started her wrestling career from the age of 12, Paige has managed to stamp her place as one of the best female wrestlers in the world. This forced WWE to sign her on a developmental deal which soon made her the first ever NXT Women’s champion.

The Anti-Diva who gave all the hopes

With the title around her waist, Paige made an Anti-Diva gimmick which was aggressive and over with the fans at the same time. She continued to excel in the ring and microphone equally while the NXT fans received her with both hands.

Many said that Paige getting in the main roster is going to change the landscape of the WWE Divas division and to admit the truth even I was in that category. She was someone who the fans had high hopes for since she had all the resources to get to the level that AJ Lee was or beyond that.

There were even comparisons to Lita in the way Paige presented herself in the NXT shows which kept her stocks high among the WWE Universe.

However, with Paige, the company once again proved that no matter how talented a wrestler is, if you are a woman, you are bound to get wasted.

Taking the gender factor away, Paige is someone who could outclass most of the men wrestler both in terms of wrestling ability and microphone handling. It’s a fact clear that is clear as the day but the company has chosen to ignore it till now.

Though, Paige had her successful Anti-Diva gimmick back in NXT, WWE decided to bring her up to the main roster as an Underdog.

Now if AJ Lee was present in the roster it would’ve made sense as the two could’ve sparked up a great feud. But without AJ, Paige is supposed to the one holding the division together rather than being someone who has to fight back to get her wins.

And finally a mere victim of the male dominated world

At the same time, the creative team doesn’t even bother to give Paige some time to talk which has projected her as a weak champion to the majority which doesn’t know what she is all about.

The angle she has been put into is not focused on her as well with the last one being prime example. It was all about the breakdowns that Alicia Fox was having and Paige was pushed aside as a supporting character that didn’t have much to show.

Recent rumors about AJ Lee’s pregnancy go down as salt on the wound for Paige as a returning AJ Lee was her only hope for a credible feud.

The company might not have an illustrious Divas division like they had back in the Attitude Era but they should really start to think about using the minimal ammunition that they have. It’s time for WWE to revise the way they look into the Divas division and sign wrestlers instead of models.
