WWE Royal Rumble: Possible endings for the Orton-Cena match

John Cena vs Randy Orton at the Royal Rumble for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

John Cena vs Randy Orton at the Royal Rumble for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Randy Orton and John Cena will go face-to-face one more time this Sunday for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. The match is a normal one-on-one match, but with a stipulation stating that the winner will only be determined by either a pinfall or submission, this guarantees that the win will be clean, and Orton won’t be able to simply run away with the title.

Orton will win the match only if the WWE wants him to

There are several possible endings for this match, The Authority can interfere, the referee can go down, or the match can end with no result, etc. All this can happen only if the Creative wants Orton to win the match, because clearly Cena is better than him especially in a classic one-on-one match. Showing Orton win clean against Cena would only make WWE’s poster boy look weak, more because the former recently lost to Kofi Kingston.

A win with outside interference or unfair means would only question Orton’s legitimacy as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. So, if the Creative wants Orton to walk out of the match as the champion then they will have to end the match with “No Result” because that way Orton won’t look like a coward and he would still hold the title, so the fans would still accept him as their champion.

Cena has to win the match or it will hurt his WrestleMania prospects

The match’s stipulation favors Cena more as he has got a submission move in STF unlike Orton who doesn’t use a submission move, probably he’ll have to use one for this match, but whatever it would be it of course won’t make Cena tap out, because it’s very rare that we see Cena tap out. Orton only has the RKO in his arsenal, or maybe the Punt, but even two RKOs won’t be enough to keep a strong guy like Cena down for the three count.

WWE won’t show Cena lose again at a pay-per-view prior to WrestleMania, because they have all their money on that man. So, chances of Orton retaining his title look very low, and if WWE have got even the slightest of ideas about the fans not loving Orton as their champion, then they won’t let him walk out with the championships at the end of Royal Rumble.

The scenario after Orton loses the match

If Orton loses, then going by his character he is supposed to lose his cool, and maybe then we could see the return of the old relentless Orton. If Orton loses then he should get his rematch before Elimination Chamber, because it would be unfair if Orton gets his match with Cena only at the pay-per-view, as there will be 4 other guys contesting for the only big title left in the company.

It looks uncertain if Orton would retain the title even till WrestleMania with guys like CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Batista, etc., waiting in the line to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Even we don’t want to see Orton headline WrestleMania with the Royal Rumble winner, which can be CM Punk or Daniel Bryan (if he enters the match). A WrestleMania main event match between Cena and Punk or between Cena and Bryan would be good for business. So let’s hope that Cena wins the title at Royal Rumble and either Punk or Bryan win the Royal Rumble match, so we could hope for an exciting WrestleMania main event.
