Pro Wrestling News: Former WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee teaming up with Lucifer star for GLOW comic
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, AJ Lee is teaming up with Lucifer star, Aimee Garcia to write a new comic miniseries based on the Netflix show, GLOW. Glow just wrapped up their third season and will most likely be renewed for a fourth one. IDW Publishing are the distributors of the GLOW comic.
AJ Lee (real name AJ Mendez) has not been with WWE since 2015. During her time with WWE, she won the WWE Divas Championship three times and has been credited as helping create the foundation for the WWE women's revolution.
AJ Lee venturing into comics will mark her first time in this entertainment medium. The same is true of her co-writer, Aimee Garcia, who is also making her debut. In a statement, both women commented on their upcoming comic book writing debut.
Aimee Garcia said,
"I’m a huge fan of GLOW. I grew up reading comics and never saw myself represented in them, so I’m excited to explore these trailblazing characters and create the change for the next generation. AJ and I are basically writing for our younger selves."
AJ Lee also commented by saying,
"As huge fans of the Netflix series, Aimee and I are thrilled and honored to get our hands on the ladies of GLOW. Aimee’s experience in acting and my experience in pro-wrestling makes us a formidable tag team with a unique perspective to truly channel the voices of these hilarious heroines. Our mission as writing partners is to represent diverse, complex, and unbreakable female characters, which is why GLOW feels like the perfect fit."
The comic book series is set to drop in November. Could AJ Lee find a new role on the show itself? Considering her wrestling background, it's not out of the realm of possibility. Only time will tell.
