We have some many great matches this year

WWE has been quite inconsistent in the year 2018 where Pay Per Views are concerned. Especially after WrestleMania 34, when they decided to go back to the dual-branded PPV model, WWE has provided some of the worst content on Pay Per View (Backlash and Greatest Royal Rumble), in quite some time.

Follow Sportskeeda for the latest WWE news, rumors and all other wrestling news.

Fortunately, WWE managed to come out of this post-WrestleMania distress and finally produced a banger like Money in the Bank, which turned the momentum tide back in WWE's favour for the time being.

But it's time to look back at the half-year mark and rank every Pay Per View (single and dual brand) from absolute worst to best, evaluating the good, bad and ugly.

#6 Backlash

Even matches that had huge potential ended up disappointing

What a terrible show! It was an absolute disaster of an event. Almost every finish was tainted by controversy and fan apathy. With the exception of Seth Rollins and The Miz, nobody got over following this show. Major stars like Finn Balor, Sasha Banks, Asuka and Ronda Rousey were missing, which derails any momentum they had.

The Good: Rollins vs The Miz for the Intercontinental Championship was the match of the night. An excellent match, just proving how good Rollins and The Miz really are in the ring. Although the Elias, New Day, Rusev Day, No Way Hose and Bobby Roode segment was divided, it proved to be a light and entertaining few minutes.

The Bad: Everything else on the show, especially the main event between Samoa Joe vs Roman Reigns which was a complete snoozefest, raided with rest-holds and boring comeback sequences. Styles-Nakamura and Hardy-Orton disappointed. The night reached new heights of boredom.

The Ugly: KO and Sami Zayn utterly squashed by Lashley and Strowman were not required. And the finish to the Carmella-Charlotte match was horrible, which is even more frustrating considering Charlotte just ended Asukas streak.

#5 Elimination Chamber

The first-ever women's Elimination Chamber match delivered strong

A rather mixed-bag show with really strong chamber matches met with predictable outcomes. There was nothing on this show, except, Sasha Banks turning on Bayley worth noting, and even that did not amount to anything special.

The Good: The first ever Women's Elimination Chamber delivered strong. Banks, Bayley and Mickie James especially provided very engaging performances, keeping the viewers glued.

Bliss winning was predictable, but the right call. Braun Strowman was booked to look absolutely unstoppable in the Men's Chamber match for the most part, which is always a delight to watch.

The Bad: Everyone for almost a year knew the main event of Wrestlemania 34. And since Roman did not win the Rumble, he was surely winning the Chamber, it was just a question of how quick was it going to end.

Reigns predictably won but, met with a post-match beatdown at the hands of Braun Strowman which did not amount to anything in the future.

The Ugly: The Bray Wyatt-Matt Hardy feud was absolutely terrible. The promos were annoying, the in-ring action was boring and the feud had no purpose.

There was no need for a match between these two to happen on PPV. But it did happen and it was horrible.

#4 Money In The Bank

Monster in the Bank

For all the highs this show can be praised for, there were quite a few lows that equally brought the show back to square one.

For every Styles vs Nakamura (Which itself was surprisingly great), there was a Jinder vs Roman, for every Nia vs Rousey (Also a match which turned out great) there was Carmella vs Asuka.

The Multi-Man/Woman matches were excellent, but except for the Raw Women's Championship and WWE Championship matches, everything else fell a little bit flat towards the end.

The Good: Bliss was the queen of the night! After a surprise Money in the Bank ladder match victory, her subsequent cash-in on Nia was spot on.

Nobody saw it coming, but it made all the sense in the world to cash it in at that time, Ronda Rousey had an absolutely show-stealing performance and finally, AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura had the best match in their series.

The Bad: The men's ladder match, although good, was not as good as the NXT ladder match earlier this year. Bryan and Big Cass (Soon to be fired) had a decent match but the feud was horrible. Lashley vs Sami Zayn was borderline ugly but thankfully ended quick. Carmella vs Asuka was a bad match too, which was saved by James Ellsworth returning.

The Ugly: Roman Reigns vs Jinder Mahal was the worst thing about the night. The match was half decent, but what killed it was the Chicago crowd.

Completely ignoring the match and spewed chats the whole time, this was the lowest point of the night and it did not help that they were given the death spot (Right after the Women's MITB Ladder Match). Hopefully, the Roman experiment ends soon.

#3 Fastlane

Rusev vs Shinsuke Nakamura was a very entertaining match

The last single branded PPV in the brand-split era, and admittedly it was quite a banger. There were some fun matches out there as well as a set up for some major angles for WrestleMania.

This PPV saw Royal Rumble winner Asuka jump ship from Raw to SmackDown in order to challenge Charlotte for the Women's Championship.

The Good: The main event was action packed and provided all sorts of thrills, twists and turns, especially the final sequence where it looked like Kevin Owens almost had the match won.

Rusev vs Shinsuke Nakamura was the best singles match on the card and was truly amazing to see Rusev get such a reaction.

The Bad: The US Championship match between Randy Orton and Bobby Roode was a bit boring and Randy taking the title was not a wise decision, considering Bobby Roode was not an established main roster star yet.

The Ugly: There was nothing particularly ugly about this show except maybe, the Bludgeon Brothers attacking The New Day and The Usos in the midst of what was en route to being a really good match.

#2 Royal Rumble

Rumble winner Asuka had her deserved spotlight taken away by a debuting Ronda Rousey

The first ever Women's Royal Rumble. The night ended up being a huge success. The first time in years the Rumble winners were super over with the fans.

This was the night Rousey officially made her WWE debut, "surprising" everyone after the Rumble match came to an end, in the process taking away the spotlight Asuka had after her Rumble win.

The Good: The Men's Royal Rumble match was very good. Fin Balor with an excellent Iron-man performance, Rollin's fantastic elimination of Cesaro and Rey Mysterio's WWE return, all made for some great moments.

An especially fantastic moment was when the old guard of Mysterio, Orton and Cena stood face to face with the new guard of Balor, Nakamura and Reigns, which acted like a sort of passing of the torch moment.

The Women's match, although not great in terms of match psychology, had some amazing returning moments which saw the coming together of the past, present and future of the women's division. Both winners were met with thunderous ovations.

The Bad: The undercard underwhelmed quite a bit. Especially the world title matches. Brock Lesnar had a boring Universal title defence against Kane and Strowman. Although the Styles vs Owens and Zayn WWE Championship match was better, the screwy finish tainted the match a little bit.

The Ugly: There was nothing particularly ugly about this PPV, but this was the night the Tag Team of Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin lost all credibility after losing two falls back to back against the Usos.

#1 WrestleMania 34

Nakamura's heel turn was the fresh character change he needed for a while

This was en route to being one of the greatest Wrestlemania of all time, but due to some questionable booking and a ruined main event, it brought the show-down from amazing to a very good category.

The show ran seven hours long and thankfully did not have any musical concerts in the middle. The show proved how weird a Wrestlemania can get sometimes. Therefore I will provide what's good, bad, ugly and weird about the show.

The Good: Most of the first half! The IC triple threat match was amazing, Rousey made a strong debut in the match of the night, Charlotte vs Asuka was great and even the pre-show match between Cedric and Mustafa was superb.

But the best moment was seeing Daniel Bryan make his return from retirement on this show to thunderous YES chants.

The Bad: The US title fatal four way was all kinds of wrong and so was Alexa Bliss vs Nia Jax. Both matches should have been cut short in favour of the triple threat tag team match which severely needed more time.

Styles vs Nakamura underwhelmed quite a bit. There was something a little bit off about this match.

The Ugly: Lesnar vs Reigns was not dealt with hate, but with utter indifference. Fans seemed to stop caring about Wrestlemania after the Braun Strowman match. And finally, Lesnar retaining the title just marked one year of buildup and booking completely null and void.

The Weird: Strowman beat The Bar for the Tag Team Championship with a ten-year-old boy as his tag partner. A ten-year-old boy held the same title, the legendary Hardy Boys won the year before. Enough said.
