RAW Superstar of the week (27/5/13)

This week’s RAW was out of Calgary, Alberta CA. And while it was a truly memorable night filled with amazing matches featuring talents such as Daniel Bryan (no surprise there!), The Shield, Randy Orton and the other regular talents on the roster, one man stood above them all like a shadow, albeit a positive one. Bret Hart is undoubtedly Calgary’s best import into the world of professional wrestling, where he has left behind a legacy that inspires many to this day. It was an easy decision for me to make when right from the opening, when John Cena the WWE champ came out for his promo, the crowd started chanting for ‘The Hitman’!

During the course of the show, he was first shown interacting with Daniel Bryan & Kane, a segment which brought the house down, thanks to an excellent performance by Bryan. He, later on, was shown in a backstage segment with Curtis Axel, the son of Mr. Perfect, who was one of Bret’s best opponents. Everytime Bret was shown on the screen, the audience in attendance popped in a big way, showing how much he is adored and still relates to the wrestling audience, after all these years. It is the same reason why ‘The Bret Hart Appreciation Night’ was so special to me, because as a wrestling fan who grew up in the 90s, there was no one a better ‘Good Guy’ than Bret Hart and I was among the millions who would dream of getting the Hitman shades someday for being a good kid.

The Hitman was felicitated by the city council and May 27th is now officially proclaimed as ‘Bret Hart day’. While a pro-wrestler getting such a huge honour bestowed upon him is extremely rare, what is worth noting is the fact that not one in the audience, the building or Canada, would dispute that. Because, as a role-model for young kids and others, there has never been a better example for the business, and like echoed by everyone who came out to pay tribute and in support of him, he still very much is ‘The best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be…’

Ladies & Gentlemen, the Raw Superstar of the Week is Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart.

An unexpected name just challenged Randy Orton RIGHT HERE.
