5 reasons why Randy Orton will lose the title at WWE Elimination Chamber 2014

Viper or Duck?

Viper or Duck?

Back in the TLC pay-per-view, the idea of Orton winning the unified title fair and square over John Cena seemed like the best idea since it was something fresh and opposite to Cena winning everything. But even after two months into the title reign, Orton and the creative are yet to make clear as to why he was made the champion.

The already stale character of Orton was further made worse with the title win and he now looks like a duck champion who is willing to do any cowardly act to stay safe.

Pulled and pushed in the constant dilemma involving the Authority, Orton has suffered defeats to names which include Daniel Bryan to Kofi Kingston. His wins were also least impressive to be precise leaving many doubts on the credibility of Orton as a champion.

His next big hurdle comes at the Elimination Chamber where he is pitted up against five other men. At this pace, the chances of Orton walking out of Chamber as the champion are slimmer than ever. So let’s take a look at the top five reasons why Orton might drop the title at the Chamber.

The Momentum factor

Getting knocked out

Getting knocked out

WWE is not a place where the momentum factor plays a big role, but they have always spent considerable time making their champions look good before a big match.

However, Orton hasn’t had that luxury as mentioned earlier. He heads into chamber as a cowardly champion who has lost all his credibility. From taking drops to Kofi Kingston to running scared from the Arena, Orton has been put into precarious angles that has made him look weaker than he ever was.

While, the other five competitors come into the chamber with a good push behind them, Orton clearly heads in as the underdog. In a match that anything could happen, being in that position is a disadvantage as five others will be preying on his back for the title.

Batista vs. Orton doesn’t ring any bell

Been there done that

Been there done that

We’ve seen it many times, we’ve seen them from their Evolution days, we’ve seen Batista getting an RKO; we’ve seen Orton getting a Batista bomb, we’ve seen everything.

So another Orton-Batista match would just be another repetition of what we’ve seen in the past. And since the Batista’s return hasn’t worked well as the WWE planned putting him in the WrestleMania main event against an already stale Orton would make least sense.

The fact that Batista isn’t the same guy he used to be four years ago adds also makes this a good decision as he won’t be able to pull of another great match with Orton. If it was a Hell in a Cell or TLC pay-per-view an Orton vs. Batista match would’ve been good enough, but for the thirtieth anniversary of WrestleMania, it sounds too risky to be put on the match card.

The Beast incarnated

Where is the storyline?

Where is the storyline?

As soon as he made his return, Brock Lesnar made it clear that he is going after the title. With the sheer star power that he possess there is no question as to whether it would be a good decision or not.

However, currently as things stand, Lesnar is not even in the title scene. The Authority has refused to grant his wish which leaves Lesnar wandering for answers. At this point, him playing interference in the Elimination Chamber post match scene is the most likely angle that will put him relevant in the title chase.

If Orton wins the title at Chamber, the attack angle involving Lesnar would be blown off as Orton would receive the least sympathy possible. A match between Orton and Lesnar would also be less intriguing as the classic face vs. heel scenario will be absent from the situation.

Thus any of the face winning the Chamber would be the best decision for business as it also opens the doors for the company to change Batista into a heel.

Need of new feud

The best direction

The best direction

Putting Orton in a feud with Brock Lesnar and Batista wouldn’t be a good thing as pointed out earlier. And he has already locked horns with Bryan and Cena in the recent past leaving Sheamus as the only fresh opponent for the Viper.

If Orton is to win the chamber match and retain the title, this potential feud won’t be materialized and Orton will be dropped into the same situations that we’ve seen.

So the best way to book Orton will be to make Sheamus eliminate him unleashing the vicious side of Orton that has stayed hidden inside him for so long.

Saving Orton from the title scene for the WrestleMania season will work this way as the part timers could take center stage. After the feud with Sheamus, Orton could be reinserted as a title contender when all the part timers go back into hibernation.

The Yes Movement

Yes Yes Yes

Yes Yes Yes

The last time WWE pulled off a historic pay-per-view, the WWE universe crucified the main event with Yes chants showing their anger at the absence of Daniel Bryan in the match.

Though the WWE is trying to rectify it this time by giving Bryan a spot in the chamber, one can only imagine how screwed up the fans will be if Bryan doesn’t win the title. WWE wouldn’t want to make their last stop before WrestleMania ruined with yes chants.

A win for Daniel Bryan will set a great road to WrestleMania as Orton could spin off against Sheamus while Bryan will be a credible face among Batista and Lesnar.

To make things simple, with CM Punk almost certain to miss the Chamber if Bryan doesn’t win, the WWE Universe riot.
