WWE has seen several former superstars return in the past year, but they also welcomed a few new faces. While some already began on the main roster, the others were placed in NXT. However, it looks like Shawn Spears isn't just concerned about being an in-ring superstar.

Shawn Spears began his WWE journey in 2006 and continued until 2009 at OVW, the Stamford-based company's former developmental territory. In 2013, he re-signed with the promotion as Tye Dillinger but left again in 2019. From 2019 until 2023, he performed at AEW as Shawn Spears, the name and persona he kept when he returned to the Stamford-based promotion in February this year in NXT. While many fans are used to seeing him as a superstar, he also has another role backstage.

According to a recent report from Fightful Select, Shawn Spears has been working as a producer for NXT since returning to WWE. It was stated that he overshadowed the brand's producer, Johnny Moss, by helping him produce Lola Vice vs. Sol Ruca and Tatum Paxley vs. Thea Hail.

Spears' new backstage role certainly fits him, as it is something he has been doing in the past even before returning to the company. In July 2019, he and Tyler Breeze opened a wrestling school named Flatbacks Training in Appoka, Florida.

Shawn has found success in All Elite Wrestling and other independent promotions when he left the Stamford-based company. However, the latter company's recent success convinced him to return.

In a past interview with Fightful, Shawn stated that the WWE has been on fire recently, and their success is seen in their numbers as they keep breaking record after record. He shared that the company has high attendance at shows along with high merchandise sales. He added that he was proud to be part of the product again and contribute in any way he can when it is stronger than ever.

Which current superstar has also been producing matches for the company?

As it turns out, the Stamford-based promotion has welcomed current superstars to try different roles for the company. Aside from Shawn Spears, Pete Dunne has also been producing matches. The company recently announced WWE Speed, a video series of pre-taped matches lasting up to three minutes exclusively on X.

It was reported that the former NXT UK Champion produced the matches on March 22, 2024, between Cedric Alexander and Odyssey Jones and Tyler Bate vs. Angel Garza.

It would be interesting to see what else Shawn Spears will do in his second return to the company.
