Royal Rumble 2019: 5 things we’re glad didn’t happen at the PPV

The Man proved her worth once again!
The Man proved her worth once again!

The Royal Rumble had some high and low spots which sent the crowds raving at times but booing on other occasions.

While the two Royal Rumble matches were not as exciting as one would have expected, the final outcome surely blew off the roof of the arena and sent the fans home happy.

However, there were some results which did not please the fans too much, especially the outcome of the Universal Championship match.

While WWE did make some questionable decisions in the entire event, we are glad that a few things did not happen at the event which could have made matters worse.

Keeping that in mind, we have come up with a list of five things that WWE thankfully did not pull of at the event which surely made it better to watch and also helps continue some great storylines.

Check out the list below, and share your favorite moments from the event in the comments section!

#5 Daniel Bryan scoring a clean victory

There were a lot of expectations from the match between Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles for the WWE Championship as they are the top two acts in WWE today. However, the match was sorta bland and did not offer as much as was expected since the two veteran superstars have pulled off some incredible matches in the past.

One thing we did not see coming was the unlikely involvement of Eric Rowan in the match. Rowan interfered and landed a chokeslam on AJ Styles to hand Bryan the win.

Recently we’ve heard Bryan wanting to be the most despised superstar in WWE and wants the crowd to hate him more than they hate Brock Lesnar and others. If he would have managed to win the match clean, then his heelish tactics would not have shined as well as they did with the help of Rowan.

It was surprising to see the two men unite, but at the end, we got to see Bryan win once again by cheating which will definitely help build his current character and heel image on SmackDown Live.

#4 Becky Lynch becoming a three-time SmackDown Women’s Champion

The Man battled against Asuka to try and win the SmackDown Women’s Championship for the third time.

Even though Becky Lynch greatly increased the value of the championship in her second run, Asuka also deserved to keep the title as her first championship win on the main roster.

Becky Lynch is arguably the best female superstar in WWE today and has proven to be the complete package. This has allowed her to greatly excel in the past six or eight months and become the star she’s always dreamt of becoming.

Even though Lynch deserves a title too, losing the SmackDown championship match and then winning the Royal Rumble was the perfect way to go as now Lynch can challenge Ronda Rousey for the Raw Women’s Championship and switch brands in the process.

Lynch is one of the biggest superstars WWE has got at the moment, and she could be the tool WWE needs to increase Raw’s ratings and also get fans more involved in the product.

#3 Finn Balor going down without a fight

The Extraordinary Man came face to face with The Beast at the Royal Rumble. Finn Balor wanted to win back his Universal Championship, but couldn’t go the extra mile to achieve his dream. Instead, what he did was something more than the WWE Universe could ask of him. He managed to give The Beast a beating he will surely remember.

Fans are sick of watching the part-time Universal Champion Brock Lesnar only show up when he wants to and decrease the value of the red belt. While the crowd was behind Finn Balor to beat Brock Lesnar, he couldn’t do so but that did not lead to too much disappointment.

Balor gave almost everything he’s got to try and slay The Beast and did not go down without a fight. That’s exactly what fans were expecting from Balor, and thankfully WWE did not book a squash match.

Maybe Balor will get another chance to beat The Beast sometime in the near future.

#2 Braun Strowman winning the Men’s Royal Rumble Match

There were a few men who deserved to win the Men’s Royal Rumble match. If it wasn’t going to be Seth Rollins, then men like Randy Orton, Drew McIntyre, and even Big E would have been pretty good choices.

However, one man who has gotten the backing of the WWE Universe for well over a year would not have been the idle choice anymore. That man is none other than The Monster Among Men Braun Strowman.

Strowman has been given many chances by WWE, and he has either lost or blown them. This his greatly impacted his value and his image which will take a lot of repairing to do.

This made him the not-so-ideal choice to win the Rumble, as he wouldn’t have been convincing enough as a challenger anymore.

Seth Rollins is a star choice and we’re glad he won the Rumble.

#1 Charlotte winning the Women’s Royal Rumble Match

Booking Charlotte to win the Royal Rumble could have upset a lot of fans

Charlotte Flair has gotten numerous title matches and has managed to win quite a few of those. Fans have learned over the years that Charlotte can get herself a title match without even proving herself prior to that.

One of the worst outcomes of the match would have been to see Charlotte win the Royal Rumble match to get a title match opportunity for WrestleMania 35, denying many other deserving superstars of that opportunity.

Keeping in mind the number of matches she has gotten in the past, a Royal Rumble victory would surely have not changed much as she can still get a title match at WrestleMania.

If the winner Becky Lynch challenges Ronda Rousey for the Raw Women’s Championship, then it is likely that Charlotte will get a match against Asuka for the Mania after winning at Elimination Chamber.

WWE did the right thing in not allowing Charlotte to take the spotlight once again and gave the fans what they wanted to see instead.
