Toward the conclusion of the main event tag team match, John Cena was attacked by a hooded assailant, who turned out to be Truth. He hit The Last Real Champion with the Undisputed WWE Title, allowing Cody Rhodes to hit the Cross Rhodes for the win.

Many fans were wondering if it was a work or if the company rehired Killings due to the backlash. Dave Meltzer reported on the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio that Truth was back because of the fans, which "tore apart" the plans for Money in the Bank.

"He's back because of the fans, that's the deal. He's back because of the fans, they saw the outcry. They basically tore apart what they were gonna do tonight when they brought him back and wanted to have the big moment," Meltzer said. [H/T Wrestle Purists]

Triple H subtly told reporters after MITB that it was a work, while R-Truth said it wasn't. Multiple reports have said that it was WWE bringing him back due to the overall reaction by fans.

Despite what Triple H said after the show, Cody Rhodes' statement about R-Truth might be the answer that fans need. Rhodes thanked the WWE Universe for making Truth's return happen.

It will be interesting to see how WWE plays out R-Truth's return, especially with him being called Ron Killings now. It's a change in character, probably similar to the one he used in 2011, when he received a push that culminated in a WWE Title match against John Cena.
