WWE Rumours: Possible contenders for Brock Lesnar's WWE Universal Championship

Lesnar won the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 33

What’s the story?

Wrestling Observer has reported that the new WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar is scheduled to work the upcoming RAW-exclusive pay-per-view.

At WWE Payback, Lesnar will be defending the Championship and the possible opponents include Braun Strowman, Seth Rollins or a returning Finn Balor.

In case you didn’t know

At WrestleMania 33, Brock Lesnar defeated Goldberg after 5-minutes of a hard hitting contest and emerged as the new WWE Universal Champion.

The heart of the matter

WrestleMania 33 was probably the last date in Goldberg’s recent deal with the WWE, but that’s not the case with Brock Lesnar. The Beast Incarnate will be working with the company up until next year when his current contract with WWE expires, at the very minimum.

Lesnar’s current schedule doesn’t include an appearance on every pay-per-view leading to WrestleMania 34, but Wrestling Observer reports that he will be working on more events than he did in the past year.

He will be present during tonight’s edition of RAW and the build-up towards his WWE Payback title feud may very well start from this show.

What’s next?

WWE Payback will be the first RAW-exclusive pay-per-view after the ‘Show of Shows’, WrestleMania 33. The event will be airing live on the WWE Network on April 30th, 2017, from the SAP Center in San Jose, California.

Author’s take

A potential match between Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman has been teased by WWE for some time and it will be interesting to see how the monsters battle for the prestigious WWE Universal Championship.

On the other hand, ‘The Demon King’ may pull out the unthinkable by slaying the Beast if he's provided with the opportunity.

The score between Seth Rollins and Brock Lesnar is yet to be settled inside the squared circle. They fought for the WWE title before, but the stakes will be higher when the ‘Kingslayer’ targets the Universal title.

Either way, the main event of the Payback pay-per-view will be a show-stealer for sure.
