Top 5 greatest WrestleMania theme songs

The Grandest Spectacle of Them All!
The Grandest Spectacle of Them All!

WrestleMania is less than a week away and it is time to get excited. Along with the grandeur and spectacle of WWE's premier event, the sounds play a big part in making WrestleMania a memorable affair. The soundtrack of a particular show could shape its fortunes in a few ways. A well-chosen song would have a positive effect on the build-up to the show, playing a part in video packages or live performances in the stadium itself.

Some songs are a great representative of the product that WWE is putting on at the time, demonstrating the issues between various superstars in seamless finesse. They also lead the fans' memories of a particular WrestleMania and their experiences of it. The theme song of WrestleMania must be a beacon of excitement for the entire WWE universe, in anticipation for a big match, or the entire show as a whole.

Here are the five greatest theme songs in WrestleMania history. But first, here are a couple of honorable mentions.

  • "Superstar" by Saliva (WrestleMania 18)
  • "I Dare You" by Shinedown (WrestleMania 22)
  • "Light It Up" by Rev Theory (WrestleMania 24)

#5. "Monster" by Imagine Dragons (WrestleMania 30)

Imagine Dragons have provided the occasional soundtrack for certain WWE events and documentaries, but the best contributions they made were for WrestleMania 30.

For months, fans followed the story of Daniel Bryan, chanting "YES" at every show across the country, which forced WWE's hand to alter their WrestleMania main event plans to include Bryan in the WWE World Heavyweight title picture.

His quest for gold was the main story heading into the show and it was excellently demonstrated in the above video package, which tells the story in a way that not only brought it into perspective but added an emotional edge as well.

The lyrics to the song also fit in perfectly to the story, especially with Daniel Bryan and his Yes Movement becoming a bigger "monster" than it had any right to be. And despite the fact that the main theme song was actually "Celebrate" by Kid Rock, this song is the one that is most synonymous to WrestleMania 30. This video package was genuinely one of the best that WWE has ever produced, with "Monster" being a huge reason why it worked so well.

#4. "Greenlight" by Pitbull (WrestleMania 33)

WrestleMania 33 was the most beautiful 'Mania from a purely visual standpoint, with a fantastic stage, which was probably the greatest one ever. The show also played host to a 10-minute mini-concert between matches.

Usually, this would be the perfect opportunity for a bathroom break during the 5-hour main card, but this was one of the best live musical performances at the Show of Shows, apart from the entrances. Pitbull, Lunchmoney Lewis and, of course, Flo Rida took the stage to perform "Greenlight", the official theme for WrestleMania in 2017.

Despite the non-PG verbiage in the song, it was still a pretty strong choice from WWE. The song has a party vibe to it which was showcased on the Raw after 'Mania, as the passionate WWE universe created chants to the tune of the song.

It was a better theme than it was expected to be, particularly because of the way it weirdly suited WrestleMania. That being said, expect Flo Rida to be back on the stage next year as the Showcase of the Immortals comes to Tampa.

#3. "The Memory Remains" by Metallica (WrestleMania 28)

Metallica is one of the greatest heavy metal bands of all-time, as WWE fans saw at WrestleMania 28.

As Triple H and the Undertaker prepared to battle in what was billed as the "End of an Era", the haunting Hell in a Cell structure descended to the grim and eerie sounds of "The Memory Remains".

This was the perfect "theme song" for Hell in a Cell and an iconic scene for everyone watching. The song was also a fitting soundtrack for this classic between the Game and the Deadman.

Through the fortune and fame that Triple H experienced as a member of D-Generation X and during the McMahon-Helmsley Era, to the insanity of the Undertaker throughout his astonishing run with the company, "The Memory Remains" was the perfect theme for both stars. The memory will always remain. Oh, why did they do Australia and Saudi Arabia, again?

#2. "Ladies and Gentlemen" by Saliva (WrestleMania 23)

WrestleMania 23 marked the beginning of the permanent shift to huge stadiums for WrestleMania and it started with a bang, as over 80,000 fans filled Ford Field for the show. The 23rd annual Show of Shows had some huge names at the top of the card, including Vince McMahon and Donald Trump partaking in a Battle of the Billionaires.

This show was a spectacle of the highest order and the theme song was more appropriate than ever. "Ladies and Gentlemen" was built for an extravagant event, like a carnival of sorts.

WrestleMania is basically the sports entertainment carnival. This was the most bought 'Mania of all time at that point, furthering the big show feel and grandeur to this event in particular.

All the eyes were on WWE and WrestleMania, and the story was perfectly told through this Saliva production.

The song embodied WWE's grand promotion to this show and every WrestleMania following it. The lyrics of this song were a very clear message to every single fan watching this show.

#1. "My Way" by Limp Bizkit (WrestleMania 17)

Some songs on this list provided an excellent vibe to the story of a match heading into WrestleMania, while others made the entire show feel bigger and more fun. Limp Bizkit's "My Way" accomplished both of them.

There is no song that better suited a single match in the history of professional wrestling than "My Way" for the epic WWE Championship match between "Stone Cold' Steve Austin and the Rock at WrestleMania 17. The music accompanying the narrative makes this the greatest video package ever created by WWE's unbelievable production staff.

Austin and Rock were two of the most popular names in the history of WrestleMania and the importance of their main event here was magnified tremendously by the hard rock nature of the song and what it meant for all involved.

Both men were unwilling to let the other get an upper hand in this program and see things in any way but his own. The timing of the riffs and the chords were perfect and in sync with the Stunners and the Rock Bottoms in the package.

WrestleMania 17 was the most significant culmination of any era in wrestling history in so many ways. It was the end of a fierce competition, as WWE put WCW out of business a week before the show, and Austin as the top babyface, as he turned heel on the night, among other things.

"My Way" perfectly illustrated the ways of all involved in WrestleMania 17, most of all Vince McMahon, as he came out on top over Ted Turner. Never has a single theme song be so representative of an event, the promoter, a match and the two stars involved. Just absolute perfection.
