Who will walk out of the Elimination Chamber with the WWE Championship?

Elimination Chamber 2019 poster.

The Elimination Chamber is perhaps the most unique contest in professional wrestling. It combines elements of the War Games match, Hell in a Cell, and even a nod to WCW's old "Tower of Doom" contest, and usually ups the ante by including a championship title on the line.

It might be hard to believe, but the Elimination Chamber match is almost twenty years old. The chamber matches began in 2002 and was the brainchild of then-WWE employee Eric Bischoff.

By adding in a random element--no one knows which superstar will enter the match or at what time--it has become one of the most exciting and highly anticipated events in pro wrestling today.

This year's Elimination Chamber event will determine who will walk into Wrestlemania 35 as the WWE Champion, meaning the stakes are higher than ever before. We will examine the six competitors, and rate their chances for walking out the victor.

Participant #1: Daniel Bryan

Daniel Bryan hefts his new 'eco-friendly' WWE Championship.
Daniel Bryan hefts his new 'eco-friendly' WWE Championship.

Real name: Brian Lloyd Danielson

Years in the pro wrestling business: 20 (Ring General)

Career Accolades: PWG World champion 2x, Ring of Honor Pure Champion 1x, Ring of Honor World Champion 1x, WWE Grand Slam champion, and over thirty different regional and international titles in both singles and tag team divisions, as well as tournament victories all over the world. Definitely the most highly decorated competitor in the Elimination Chamber Match.

Daniel Bryan is one of the most unlikely WWE superstars of all time. He's 'too small,' got his start on the independent scene rather than WWE's developmental territories, and is known to be quite particular about how he wants his matches to be booked.

That being said, he is also one of the most consistently solid performers and a veritable cult of personality, with all respect to CM Punk. The odds are stacked against him at Elimination Chamber, but can he walk out still holding the gold...er, wood?

Chances of winning the Elimination Chamber: 50-50. Daniel Bryan is enjoying a career renaissance and is one of the most technically skilled athletes in WWE. His recent push back into the world title picture is in its infancy, so he has a good chance of remaining the champion. However, with five other wrestlers all fighting inside the domed cage, he has an uphill battle ahead of him.

Participant #2: Jeff Hardy

Jeff Hardy
Jeff Hardy

Real name: Jeffrey Nero Hardy

Years in the pro wrestling business: 26 years (Ring General)

Career Accolades: Ring of Honor World Tag Team Champion (one time with Matt Hardy), TNA World Heavyweight Championship (3 times), TNA World Tag Team Championship (2 times) – with Matt Hardy, WWE World Heavyweight Championship (2 times), WWE Championship (1 time), WWE European Championship (1 time), WWE United States Championship (1 time), WWF/E Hardcore Championship (3 times), WWF/E Intercontinental Championship (4 times), WWF Light Heavyweight Championship (1 time), WWE Raw Tag Team Championship (1 time) – with Matt Hardy, WWF/World Tag Team Championship (6 times) – with Matt Hardy

Jeff Hardy, the Charismatic Enigma, got his start wrestling not far from home...in his own back yard, in fact. He and brother Matt started their own wrestling promotion and trained themselves initially, though they would receive more formal instruction as their careers progressed to the professional leagues.

Jeff Hardy has battled back against personal demons--some of which resulted in an embarrassing, inebriated performance at a TNA pay per view--to become once more a respected sports entertainer. He's already had some highlight reel moments in the Elimination Chamber, but can he pull off the victory?

Chances of winning the Elimination Chamber match: 70-30 against. Jeff Hardy will no doubt thrill the crowd with some aerial daredevil wizardry in the domed cage, but he has little real momentum and has been largely a mid-card performer since he joined the blue brand.

Participant #3: Randy Orton

Randy Orton
Randy Orton

Real name: Randall Keith Orton

Years in the pro wrestling business: 19 (veteran on the cusp of being a Ring General.)

Career Accolades: Ohio Valley Wrestling Hardcore Champion 2x, World Heavyweight Championship (4 times), World Tag Team Championship (1 time) – with Edge, WWE Championship[a] (9 times), WWE Intercontinental Championship (1 time), WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship (1 time) – with Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper, WWE United States Championship (1 time), WWE Grand Slam Champion. Youngest world champion in WWE history.

Randy Orton is the son of legendary Cowboy Bob Orton, but to be honest, he's far exceeded his father's legacy. Consistent, smooth, and an underrated technical wrestler, Orton has been a mainstay in the WWE for nearly twenty years.

Chances of winning the Elimination Chamber: 60-40 against. Randy Orton has been in a sort of limbo between the mid-card and main event scene. Given his history and status, he has a good chance of winning but more than likely he will not walk out with the title.

Participant #4: AJ Styles

AJ Styles
AJ Styles

Real name: Allen Neal Jones

Years in the pro wrestling business: 23 (Ring General.)

Career Accolades: IWGP World Heavyweight champion (two times,) ROH Pure Championship (1 time, inaugural), ROH World Tag Team Championship (1 time) – with Amazing Red, ROH Pure Wrestling Championship Tournament (2004), NWA World Heavyweight Championship (3 times),NWA World Tag Team Championship (4 times) – with Jerry Lynn (1), Abyss (1) and Christopher Daniels (2),TNA Legends/Global/Television Championship (2 times), TNA World Heavyweight Championship (2 times), TNA World Tag Team Championship (2 times) – with Tomko (1) and Kurt Angle (1), TNA X Division Championship (6 times, inaugural), WWE Championship (2 times), WWE United States Championship (2 times).

What more can you say about AJ Styles than what has already been said? His career speaks for itself. He is one of the few wrestlers to have worked for WCW, TNA/Impact, ROH, and WWE, and has been dazzling audiences around the world for more than two decades. Only Daniel Bryan has racked up more title wins, and it's a close race.

Chances of winning the Elimination Chamber: 60-40 against. AJ Styles was in the title match at Wrestlemania 34 last year, but that doesn't mean he won't do it again. However, he had enjoyed a long reign as champion and it feels like it's someone else's turn.

Participant #5: Samoa Joe

Samoa Joe
Samoa Joe

Real name: Nuufalau Joel Seanoa

Years in the pro wrestling business: 19 (veteran on the cusp of Ring General.)

Career Accolades: Ring of Honor Pure Champion (one time,) Ring of Honor World Champion (one time,) TNA Television Championship (1 time), TNA World Heavyweight Championship (1 time), TNA World Tag Team Championship (2 times) – by himself (1)2 and Magnus (1), TNA X Division Championship (5 times), NXT Championship (2 times.)

The Samoan Submission Machine was once thought to be an unlikely choice for the WWE roster, but has been on a tear ever since he signed with the NXT brand. Since he's been elevated to the main roster, he has yet to hold one of the main brands' 'big belts.' Could that change at Elimination Chamber?

Chances of winning Elimination Chamber: 80-20 against. Samoa Joe is a tremendous competitor but hasn't enjoyed a lot of momentum lately and his presence feels like he's just filling a spot in the match.

Participant #6: Kofi Kingston

Kofi Kingston
Kofi Kingston

Real name: Kofi Sarkodie-Mensah

Years in the pro wrestling business: 14 years (veteran.)

Career Accolades: WWE Intercontinental Championship (4 times), WWE United States Championship (3 times), WWE (Raw) Tag Team Championship (4 times)– with Evan Bourne (1), R-Truth (1), Big E and Xavier Woods (2), WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship (3 times)1 – with Big E and Xavier Woods (3), World Tag Team Championship (1 time) – with CM Punk. Also has the record for most Royal Rumble elimination saves, usually by some crazy acrobatic manoeuvre.

Kofi Kingston is a late entry into the Elimination Chamber match, replacing Mustafa Ali at the last minute thanks to a gruelling hour-long performance on Smackdown Live. He's a highly decorated wrestler who has spent his entire career with the WWE or its developmental territories, but will he walk out of Elimination Chamber as the champion?

Chances of Winning the Elimination Chamber: 60-40 in favour of it. Kofi Kingston is one of the most criminally underrated stars on the WWE roster. He's held every title the company has to offer except either of the 'big belts.'

His massive, sudden push on Smackdown and inclusion in the match seems like destiny calling, and the fans are eating it up. With AEW hungry to scoop up WWE talent, it might be time for WWE to push its longtime superstars, and Kofi certainly fits the bill.
