Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre were given the chance to kick off WWE WrestleMania 37 this year. The two superstars were ready to welcome the WWE Universe in attendance with a physical contest.
After the initial delays, the two superstars got down to business right away. The WrestleMania crowd popped as soon as both men locked up. Lashley used his power to take McIntyre down early, but The Scottish Warrior got back to his feet within seconds.
The action became more heated from there as both men started throwing punches. McIntyre tried to lock in an armbar, but Lashley took back control with a series of forearm strikes.
The two powerhouses brought out their big moves and kept trying to keep each other down. The All Mighty countered a Claymore Kick and hit a Spinebuster. The Scottish Warrior got back up and hit three Future Shock DDTs, but could not earn the pinfall.
MVP helped Lashley stay in the match by taking him out of harm’s way. McIntyre responded by delivering a dive over the top rope to take out both men.
A desperate McIntyre locked in the Kimura Lock, but Lashley made it to the bottom rope. MVP’s distraction allowed Lashley to lock in the Hurt Lock that made McIntyre fade away until the referee stopped the contest. Lashley was able to retain his WWE Championship after a top match at WrestleMania.
Some fans wanted to see McIntyre have his WrestleMania moment in front of a live crowd. However, this is The All Mighty Era, and WWE did well to keep the title on Lashley who has worked so hard in his career. RAW arguably needs a heel champion to rule for some time and Lashley is the perfect choice.
