Wrestling News: Alberto Del Rio and Paige's father get into a heated feud on Twitter ahead of upcoming WAW show

It’s a family affair!

What’s the story?

It seems Paige’s father Ricky Knight is taking a page out of Vince McMahon’s book and is looking to blur the lines between reality and fiction for his promotion World Association of Westling’s upcoming show in Norwich. He will be going up against current WAW Champion and his daughter’s husband, Alberto Del Rio (now known by his former name El Patron), and the build up has heated up in an unpredictable fashion.

As reported sometime in October last year, Knight came out and made an eyebrow-raising comment on Alberto and Paige’s engagement by saying, “Putting this out there, then saying no more about it to anyone. I am totally against my daughter marrying that man. Statement over.”

Patron resumed the feud on Twitter against Paige’s dad, who’s also the man who incidentally owns the promotion. The two exchanged a series of tweets, one of which was really odd and quite shocking, to be honest:

In case you didn’t know....

El Patron and Knight are scheduled to face each other at the WAW show at the EPIC Studios on May 13th. While Patron and Knight have had their differences in the past, the two seemed to let bygones be bygones as Knight booked his son-in-law to become the champion of his promotion.

They are now milking the whole angle to garner heat for the match next month.

The heart of the matter

Merging real-life elements into the storyline always adds more authenticity to the feud and this is a classic example of the notion. El Patron has been on a roll with his drunken and sober rants about the WWE and using his cockiness to build up any feud is a great decision.

Patron’s borderline derogatory comment on Paige being the one to beat the eggs in his house has already made this reel-life feud very personal.

What’s next?

It will be interesting to see how the match eventually pans out to be as Ricky Knight is 63 years old and in no shape to put on a lengthy classic. The personal storyline build up should be able to mask the technicality of the bout, which should also be top notch considering the workers. What’s also intriguing would be Paige’s stand in the rivalry.

Author’s take

As much as the fans currently hate Patron for his disrespectful and sometimes baseless rants on the WWE, he’s creating the buzz at the end of the day. Patron vs. Knight may not be what everyone would love, but it’s best for WAW and will surely help the already popular promotion going forward.
