WWE: 5 things that can make Payback memorable

Curtis Axel

With only a few days to go for the Payback PPV, the anticipation for this Sunday has risen as the fans wait for the return of the Straight Edge superstar, CM Punk. Payback has all the tools to be a good PPV, but so did the past few PPVs. With the storylines being mediocre at best, the WWE has a chance to redeem itself, with some excellent bouts on the card. However, the WWE management has a chance to make this PPV stand out from the rest, and make it memorable for the fans. In this article, I take a look at five possibilities that can happen at the PPV, that would make it one of the best PPVs of the year, and etch it in the minds of the fans.

5. Curtis Axel wins the Intercontinental title

Very few people know the history Curtis Axel has with the WWE Intercontinental title. His father, the legendary Mr. Perfect was one of the greatest Intercontinental champions of all time. He had some phenomenal matches as the Intercontinental champion, and it would be a ‘perfect’ tribute if Axel wins the IC title this Sunday. WWE can put the title on Axel as an ode to his famous father, and it would be the perfect platform for Curtis Axel to be seen as a legitimately top guy on the roster. At the moment, he is nothing more than a fluke, with WWE refusing to put him over cleanly. Putting the strap on him would not only add the legacy aspect to his run, but would also provide as the stepping stone for Axel to move to greater heights.

4. Christian’s return to WWE TV

Christian WWE

Christian hasn’t been on WWE TV for quite a while now, even though he’s fully fit. WWE creative is looking for a proper storyline for Captain Charisma to make his return, and this Sunday can be the perfect opportunity for Christian to make his comeback after the Ziggler – Del Rio match, attacking the winner of the bout and making his intentions clear of going after the title. Christian is a veteran in the business who hasn’t been given his due, and this will be a perfect opportunity for Christian to get back into the title contention.

3. Randy Orton’s heel turn

Orton

This Sunday, Orton teams up with Daniel Bryan to take on Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns for the WWE Tag Team championship. There have been plans for turning either one of them heel, and this Sunday can finally see an Orton heel turn. There are rumors of Bryan turning heel, but that would be completely redundant. Although the WWE management would go with a Bryan heel turn due to the plans they have for him with Cena in the near future, Bryan is very over with the crowd, and he can be the perfect fiery underdog character that Kurt Angle once was. With Orton finally turning heel, he can get into a program with Sheamus through the summer.

2. 4th member of The Shield revealed

Shield WWE

What can make The Shield even more dominant? A 4th member of the faction can be the perfect answer for that question. Since WWE is interested in bringing up members from NXT, someone like Ohno (That is his WWE name) aka Chris Hero can be the perfect fit in the group. Hero, along with Rollins was one of the top names of Ring of Honor, and can blow away the WWE Universe with his exceptional in-ring work and his charisma. If that happens, the PPV will not only become memorable, but will receive rave reviews from the fans and critics alike.

1. Chris Jericho heel turn

Chris Jericho

And finally, the number 1 pick. What can be better than a swerve against the hometown hero during his return match? When Punk left the WWE couple of months ago, he left Heyman standing in the ring. With Jericho being an old acquisition of Heyman (For those who didn’t know, Heyman was the one who noticed a young Jericho in Japan and brought him to the United States), this can be the perfect opportunity for the WWE to make a huge impact during the PPV. With Punk making his return in his hometown, he will receive the biggest reception of the night, and the fans would cheer on Punk no matter what he does. Heyman can turn on the Straight Edge savior and align himself with Chris Jericho. For those who remember, Jericho had a great feud with Punk last year, and they can carry on from where they left off. Also, Jericho might leave the WWE this Summer to tour with his band Fozzy. This would leave a huge void in the face department in the WWE, and who better to carry on from Chris than CM Punk?

Those are my 5 picks. Do let us know if you agree with us, or what you think can make a bigger impact.
