What's the story?

AEW star Chris Jericho has now taken to his official social media account, so as to weigh in with his two cents on the controversy surrounding Lio Rush's alleged backstage heat in the WWE. In response to a fan's tweet; in which said fan had asserted that if he were a big WWE star, he'd never make a young up-and-comer carry his bags; Jericho strongly disagreed with the fan.

Y2J went on to emphasize that respect is key in the professional wrestling industry, and disrespecting veterans is taboo in this business.

In case you didn't know...

Over the past several days, WWE Superstar Lio Rush has been the recipient of a considerable amount of criticism from certain sections of the professional wrestling community, owing to his alleged backstage issues in the company.

Rush personally addressed the aforesaid rumors regarding him, by taking to Twitter and opining that someone who works alongside him in the WWE is intentionally leaking misinformation regarding him, in a bid to get Rush fired from the organization.

The heart of the matter

On that note, WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry recently explained that Lio Rush needs to make a few changes to his approach as regards backstage etiquette in the WWE. Henry noted that back when he started working for WWE in the mid-1990s, he too was accorded the responsibility of helping out then-top star, late-great Yokozuna, with the latter's routine in the company.

One ought to note that the pro wrestling industry has been known to have a tradition, whereby younger talent in a company pay their dues to the business, by helping out the veterans by assisting them in carrying their bags, providing them water to drink, and so on and so forth.

Addressing the same, in context of the ongoing Lio Rush controversy, a fan noted the following on Twitter --

"I'm sorry, but if I was a big star in WWE, I would never make the young guys carry my bags. It's an exercise in humiliation designed by bitter midcarders who need to constantly be told how great they are because they have little accomplishment to do it for them."

To which, Jericho reverted back --

"Key statement there is 'if I was a big Star in the WWE'. You're not, so u don't know the respect and dedication you need to make it in WWE. I never once 'made' a young guy carry my bags. But I was shown respect every day. To disrespect the vets in any way is taboo in our biz."

What's next?

Perhaps one of the most interesting things to note with regard to this topic is that in top pro wrestling countries such as Japan and the US; it's not unheard of for talents to assist veterans of the business as the up-and-comers get introduced to the business.

That said, the general consensus in the professional wrestling industry is that Rush could likely be demoted from the main roster, and sent back to NXT in the days to come.
