WWE: "B A Bully" - Will this new gimmick push or punish Ryback?

Ryback

What do you remember most from the recent RAW? The Daniel Bryan and Stephanie McMahon segment? The CM Punk segment? “The Corporate” segment?

I thought these three were the most engaging segments, given the reactions of the audience in the arena. What I noticed during the last segment was that Ryback was standing in front of the locker room, witnessing the Triple H promo.

Ryback did not wrestle at Summerslam, neither did he wrestle on RAW. But he did have a backstage segment. And just like the last segment of the night where Daniel Bryan was bullied, Ryback bullied a local wrestler.

The 2-minute long segment had Ryback listing out various orders and the poor local wrestler was clearly intimidated by Ryback and followed his orders down to the tee. It seems that WWE still trusts in Ryback and hence are trying to portray an intimidating image of him.

During a recent interview with Grantland, Tripe H had this to say about Ryback, “He’s doing pretty good, though. When we did the Nexus, obviously we already kind of saw Wade Barrett had it, but Ryback was the guy that stuck out. And it wasn’t just because he was the biggest guy — that’s what everybody thinks. But that physique is a blessing and a curse. If you look like him, when you walk out from behind that curtain, they go, ‘Whoa, look at this guy, he’d better impress me. Because if you stink, I’m going to c*** on you right away.’ Then it’s ‘The big guy can’t move. The big guy is terrible.’”

Well, this cancels out any anti-push rumours thrown at Rybacks’s way. Though his monster push, where he was constantly having title matches, has been shifted aside, it still does not qualify in saying that Ryback’s push has seen an obvious end.

Though he is back to dealing with unknown local talent, this time he might not be wrestling them, but verbally assaulting them. He might be tuned into a complete, all-round, rough necked, rowdy bully to anger the crowd and finally be able to get a reaction from them.

Till that happens, he will just remain a heavy breathing, oversized monstrous fictional WWE character. I’m quite sure that Skip Sheffield was a more engaging character than Ryback has been till now. But the recent RAW segment gives some hope.

He slapped the poor guy when he said, “This is all I have” (when Ryback asked to put all his belongings under the shower), and it left me aghast. That was atrocious. That was sick. He should be hated for that. He deserves to be hated this time. He deserves to get a reaction.

I say all of that with the utmost fury that the segment made me feel, and that is a good thing for business. I might just buy a ticket to boo Ryback.

But it’s still too soon to predict the level that Ryback and WWE creative could reach with this gimmick, and I pay my respects to all the future local talents that are going to face Ryback’s ire. Peace out.
