Dean Ambrose defended his WWE championship against Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins at WWE Battleground 2016

WWE Battleground PPV took place at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC. This is the last PPV before the brand split officially takes place as wrestlers from both Raw and SmackDown took part in it. A lot was expected from this PPV and it lived up to the expectation.

Here are the complete WWE Battleground 2016 Results:

- Former NXT champion Bayley was Sasha Banks’ mystery partner. Banks and Bayley beat Charlotte and Dana Brooke.

- Wyatt Family beat The New Day.

- Rusev beat Zack Ryder to retain the US title. After the match, Rusev attacked Ryder and Ryder’s partner at NXT Mojo Rawley came out and saved him from the Bulgarian brute.

- Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon backstage. Rollins joins the party talking about his match tonight in the main event.

- Sami Zayn beat Kevin Owens in a match that could easily be a match of the year candidate. The crowd gave both the competitors a standing ovation during the match.

- Natalya beat Becky Lynch.

- SmackDown commissioner Shane McMahon and GM Daniel Bryan had a backstage segment with the WWE champion Dean Ambrose. They emphasised the importance of the winning the title and bringing it to their brand as Dean was oozing confidence.

- Darren Young beat The Miz via count-out. The Miz retains the Intercontinental title. During the match, Maryse slapped WWE Hall of Famer Bob Backlund and that led to a ruckus outside a ring. Miz pushed Backlund and Young locked Miz in a cross-face chicken wing, but by that time, the referee counted Miz out.

- John Cena, Enzo Amore and Big Cass beat the Club.

- Randy Orton returned to WWE after 9 months as a special guest for Chris Jericho’s highlight reel. Orton fired shots at Brock Lesnar and laid the foundation stone for their match at SummerSlam. He even took a dig at brock failing the dope test and ended the segment by hitting Jericho with an RKO outta nowhere.

- Dean Ambrose beat Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns to retain his WWE championship. The SmackDown roster came down to the ring to congratulate the champion.

The next PPV is WWE SummerSlam, which will take place at the Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York on August 21. As of now, only one match (Brock Lesnar vs Randy Orton) has been booked for the PPV. It will be interesting to find out the storylines and the matches that will take place at the PPV.
