WWE: Damien Sandow and the Super Cena Juggernaut

Cena and Sandow

Cena and Sandow

When Cena made his way to the ring and gave his usual pumped up promo, Sandow’s entrance music seemed to look like a refreshing touch to the segment. He came out and showed off his Money In The Bank briefcase and kept teasing a cash-in, to the delight of many in the arena. And then he pulled a heel move by just trying to walk out but Cena seemed to have provoked him and he did a good job of attacking Cena’s arm and quips like “Rise Above This!” and “My time is NOW” were some great additions. And then he officially cashed in. He did not get a Dolph Ziggler kind of reaction but still a substantial amount of the crowd were excited for a probable title change.

But as fate would have it, or the WWE creative would have it, Cena won with an AA with one arm. The Creative chose to show Cena in his usual avatar of a never giving up superhuman instead of having a young and immensely talented superstar like Damien Sandow win his first title. Well, if they had Cena lose then everyone would have pointed to his injured arm and how he was not a hundred percent and that as JBL said, “He might be tough for his own body.” But Cena continued to lead his fans and even some of his detractors in the arena into jubilation as soon as he pinned Sandow but that was a result of the awesomeness displayed by both wrestlers. Sandow gave Cena a real challenge and the moment he put Cena into the Crippler Crossface, it seemed for the first time after all odds Sandow might make Cena tap out.

This was great match to open the show. In a wrestling match what matters most in this business is how you reach a result, not what the result is. What matters most is how one performs in a match and whether they were able to get a reaction. This match was great and credits go to both the wrestlers for controlling the attention of the ones in the arena. And even though, many were excited about Sandow becoming a champion, he still remains our uncrowned champion because a talent like that deserves to be a champion sooner than later.

The arena rightfully gifted the two performers with a “This Is Awesome” chant. And Cena will go on to continue this shtick and the commentators including JBL, who has been great as a heel commentator, will sing his praises and we’ll have many programs involving them talking about Cena as if he’s God himself or someone else one should bow down and respect.

But I hope all this leads Sandow to something big. He deserves to be a champion. He is one of the best on the mic and good in the ring. He is one of the most promising stars for the future and he’s good a good presence. Hopefully, WWE should not fail in cashing in that sort of talent in the present and the future.
