WWE Hell In A Cell 2016: 5 Rumours you need to know

Sasha and Charlotte will be the first women ever to enter the dreaded Hell In A Cell

It’s October, which means that it’s Hell In A Cell time once again. This year’s show promises a lot, with 3 cell matches on the night, but the big question is whether the WWE can deliver. A major talking point going into Sunday night is whether Sasha and Charlotte will get the opportunity to main event the on the night. More on that later.

Every title on Raw will be defended at Hell In A Cell with the Women’s Championship, Universal Championship and US Championship being defended inside a cell. The New Day will also defend their tag titles against the unlikely team of Sheamus and Cesaro. Cruiserweight Champion TJ Perkins will also be defending his coveted title against one-time mentor and current bitter rival Brian Kendrick.

On paper, the show looks solid. With a solid midcard along with a host of exciting headliners; let’s take a look at a few last minute rumour ahead of the show.

5: Ric Flair returns

We haven’t seen Ric Flair since Charlotte banished him from her side

WWE made a big deal recently about Charlotte officially changing her ring name to Charlotte Flair as an acknowledgement of her heritage. We also heard backstage rumblings around the same time that there’s a small chance of Ric Flair returning to television for the first time since Charlotte banished him.

As unlikely as this looks at this point, if Flair does come back, he’ll probably come back to help Charlotte win back her coveted Raw Women’s Championship during her historic cell match with Sasha at Hell In A Cell. More on Sasha and Charlotte later.

4: Strowman steamrolls Sami

Braun Strowman is set to continue his dominant run at Hell In A Cell

This match hasn’t been announced as this article is being written but with only 5 matches set for Hell In A Cell as of now, backstage talk suggests that this match will most definitely be added to Sunday’s card and we’ll see Braun Strowman continue his dominant run.

Braun Strowman had a match with Sami Zayn last week where he threw Sami around a little before just walking away from the match and claiming that Sami wasn’t the strong competition he demanded. WWE later made Strowman vs Zayn official for Hell In A Cell.

It’s expected that Strowman will get a decisive win over Zayn in the first match in their feud with Zayn battling the odds to eventually overcome his much larger opponent further along in the feud. This feud should be really entertaining and Sami is the right guy to carry Strowman right now.

3: Brian Kendrick becomes a champion in the WWE again

Kendrick to leave Hell In A Cell as Cruiserweight Champion?

The beginning of the Cruiserweight Division on Raw hasn’t gone as well as previously expected. TJ Perkins is a talented in-ring worker but his brief run as Cruiserweight Champion has been lukewarm at the best of times.

With the Cruiserweight Division low on heels, there’s a very good chance that Brian Kendrick could leave Hell In A Cell with the Cruiserweight title. With his experience and mic ability, the WWE see Kendrick as the man to carry the division right now.

A heel champion will also allow the likes of Cedric Alexander and Rich Swann to get in on the championship scene.

2: Vince McMahon doesn’t want Sasha and Charlotte to main-event

Sasha and Charlotte signed their contract this week on Raw

A large section of the WWE Universe has gotten behind Sasha and Charlotte main-eventing Hell In A Cell including Raw GM and hardcore legend, Mick Foley. Reports going into Sunday suggest that the women will either headline or open the show – the latest of which suggest that a few higher-ups backstage including Vince McMahon himself are against it.

Dave Meltzer himself said that even though most people backstage are behind Sasha and Charlotte getting their deserved main event slot, Vinnie Mac may still pull the plug on the idea.

1: Chris Jericho will get involved in the Universal Championship match

Best friends to turn bitter rivals?

The biggest rumour going into Hell In A Cell is in regard to Chris Jericho and from the looks of it, his friendship with Kevin Owens is set to come to an end. According to the latest round of rumours, Jericho is all set to intervene in the Universal Championship match and will turn on Owens help Seth Rollins beat him.

WWE have been teasing a little tension between Jericho and Owens for the last few weeks and matters will most definitely come to a head at Hell In A Cell. The ‘bffs’ look set to for a devastating split.

Following this, Rollins will reignite his feud with Triple H while Kevin Owens moves to exact his revenge on Chris Jericho.
