In WWE, a Superstar's career can often live or die by how well they can cut a promo.

After all, there's no point being 6 6'' and 300lbs of pure muscle, if you lose all your credibility once a microphone is put in your hand.

Across the annals of WWE history, there have been countless promos, some good and some not so good.

There have even been those promos that blurred the lines of kayfabe, leaving fans questioning what was scripted and what was real tension between Superstars.

These promos have lived on with fans long after they were spoken, for a variety of reasons.

Here are five WWE promos that got very very real, and those who pulled the trigger on them.

#5 This is E-C-W!!!

Heyman didn't mince his words at the WWE invaders at ECW One Night Stand 2005
Heyman didn't mince his words at the WWE invaders at ECW One Night Stand 2005

The Rise and Fall of ECW documentary by WWE was a true hit.

Detailing the ins and outs of the extreme promotion over three years after its closure, the DVD got many fans excited once again about the company, and it wasn't long until a reunion show was announced.

Dubbed ECW One Night Stand, the show took place in 2005 and featured both classic matches, and heartfelt promos.

During the night, Paul Heyman would cut a teary-eyed promo, thanking everyone who had made it happen, from the guys in the locker-room to the fans.

Heyman even took a moment to get very real, addressing the WWE 'invaders', who threatened to ruin the show.

From calling out Edge for sleeping with Matt Hardy's girlfriend Lita to saying JBL was only WWE Champion because Triple H wasn't on SmackDown, Heyman wasn't pulling his punches.

#4 Jericho attempts to get under Punk's skin

When Chris Jericho returned to WWE after over a year away in 2012, fans weren't sure what to think.

The first-ever Undisputed Champion had acted strangely since coming back, refusing to speak the first week, and breaking down in tears the next.

Solidifying himself as a heel, Jericho sets his sights on CM Punk's WWE Championship, as a WrestleMania 28 match was set between the two.

In the weeks prior, Jericho tried everything to get into the head of the Straight-Edge star, who was closing in on six months as champion.

Along the way, Jericho would reveal Punk's real unfortunate past, calling Punk's father an alcoholic, and his sister a drug addict.

After a very real promo by Jericho, the two would have an epic match, that'd see the Second City Savior finally shut Jericho up.

#3 Miz sends Bryan back to the bingo halls

The Miz has always been a great hand on the mic, but in 2016 the former WWE Champion showed just how good he really is, and it wasn't even on WWE TV.

Instead, this iconic promo took place on Talking Smack. Daniel Bryan criticized the A-Lister for wrestling too soft a style, and Miz, who was usually calm and cocky, responded in uncharacteristic aggressiveness.

Ambushing the YES! Man turned General Manager, Miz called Bryan a coward for retiring, claiming if he loved wrestling as much as he claimed to do, he'd quit WWE and return to the "bingo halls" he had worked in during his independent run.

A truly shocking promo that nobody saw coming, and The Miz was a huge talking point among fans for weeks after this.

#2 Punk drops a Pipebomb

In June 2011, CM Punk's career in WWE was in a rut.

After coming up short against Randy Orton at WrestleMania 27, Punk was leading the New Nexus, but the group had lost a lot of its power.

Fortunately, change came when Punk became the number one contender for the WWE Championship at Money in the Bank, which just so happened to be in Punk's hometown.

Appearing at the end of the June 27 edition of RAW, Punk addressed a downed John Cena, then WWE Champion, cutting his infamous Pipebomb promo.

Addressing genuine frustrations with both the company and its fans, Punk vowed to leave the company at the pay per view, as champion.

Doing just that, this would be the start of an incredible summer for Punk, which would see him thrust into the main event.

#1 Paul Heyman blasts the Boss

Never before had someone spoken so callously to the Boss
Never before had someone spoken so callously to the Boss

The WCW/ECW Invasion of the WWF may not be fondly remembered by fans, but if nothing else, there was one diamond in the rough.

Just days before the Winner Takes All match between Team WWF and the Alliance at Survivor Series 2001, Paul Heyman took his chance to let Vince McMahon know what he really felt.

In an incredible, close-to-the-bone promo, Heyman's metaphor game was on point, saying the Boss had taken Hulk Hogan's blood to build Titan Tower, and stolen Bret Hart's dream to buy himself a corporate jet.

Perhaps the most scathing moment came when Heyman called out Vince for lying to his father, Vince Sr., promising the older McMahon that he would never compete with the territories.

Though Heyman and the Alliance would lose that Sunday, this promo stands the test of time.
