John Cena wins the WWE titles for a record number of time

WWE superstar, John Cena wrote his name in the history books, when he became the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion for a record 15th time at Money In The Bank pay-per-view.

Months before the event, Cena seemed as an unlikely contender until Daniel Bryan delivered the bad news few weeks ago that his neck injury is taking longer than usual to heel. Later it was speculated that Bryan won’t be able to compete until the Night of Champions PPV. This situation left the WWE with no option but to turn to its flag bearer, John Cena.

Only a month ago, it was projected that Daniel Bryan will face Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam, which later got postponed to Night of Champions. With Brock having yet to make an appearance after his historic match against the Undertaker, the WWE creative team were soon scouting for an opponent to The Beast who could headline the future PPV. Among the long list of worthy contenders, WWE decided to bank on Cena, like they always have.

Brock Lesnar to challenge Cena for the belts at SummerSlam

With ‘The Beast’ having brought an end to the streak, he has now become the top name to recon with in the WWE. Lesnar seems likely to defeat Cena at SummerSlam and go on a long lasting reign as a Champion. But we can even see Cena successfully defending his title at the event to set up a potential bout between the two at WrestleMania 31.

Pushing Cena in place of the ‘next big thing’ Roman Reigns could come as a disappointment for the fans but when it comes to the likely contender who could match up to the power of Lesnar, Cena seems as the likeliest choice, who can once again deliver for the company at the big event, like he always has.
