WWE is not new to mainstream media, especially in the animated world of Marvel Comics. Although superstars already play somewhat larger-than-life characters, there were a few instances where some of them almost played another role in the MCU.
Several wrestlers turned actors have tried their hand at playing comic book roles in both the DC and Marvel Universes. John Cena plays Peacemaker while The Rock plays Black Adam for DC. In the MCU, Batista took on the role of Drax the Destroyer. Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins were some who landed roles but were cut from the final product. However, some stars fell short of playing one.
For this list, we will look at three WWE Superstars who almost landed roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
#3. WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle was previously in contract with Marvel's President
One superstar who had the qualities of being a superhero was Kurt Angle. During his time in WWE, he was known for his athleticism, entertaining character work, and his strength. As it turns out, he was close to playing one in the MCU.
In an episode of The Kurt Angle Show in April 2023, the Hall of Famer shared that he was in contact with Kevin Feige. After the former champion tweeted that he would send milk to a Marvel agent if they managed to secure him a role, he was able to get the contact of Feige, who responded to him. However, nothing ever came of it.
#2. Marvel reached out to Damian Priest for a role in Black Panther
While it is common for WWE stars to approach talent agents directly for a movie role, especially one as big as the MCU, that wasn't the case for Damian Priest. As per reports, it was the company that reached out.
According to reports by Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp, Damian Priest was asked to read for Talokan's King, Namor, and his right-hand man, Attuman, who had significant roles in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. However, there was no confirmation on whether the former Judgment Day member attended the reading. Tenoch Huerta eventually got the role of Namor, while Attuma was played by Alex Livinalli.
#1. Randy Orton auditioned for a role in Deadpool 2
Unlike most WWE veterans, Randy Orton didn't leave for Hollywood and opted to remain wrestling inside the squared circle. However, that doesn't mean he wasn't interested in playing a few movie roles.
In a recent appearance on What Do You Wanna Talk About with Cody Rhodes, The Viper shared that he auditioned for the anti-hero, Cable and was even quite confident that he would get the role. However, the role eventually went to Josh Brolin.
