WWE Money in the Bank 2016: Five twists that could happen at the PPV

Finally?

WWE is selling this year’s Money in the Bank as the greatest one that they have had since the PPV’s inception back in 2010. One would think that since that is the tagline that surely there will be some great, maybe even career defining, moments happening this Sunday.

While the company has let us down before, in the back of some fans’ minds, they are holding onto the hope that with this new era that the Sunday night event will start the track for better days in WWE.

Money in the Bank is well known for the unpredictability of the briefcase holder, and when would he cash in the briefcase. We have seen cash ins at Raw, WrestleMania, and even the actual event before it is over.

There is a great chance that we could see a cash in on Sunday night. But, there are several matches going on outside of the rather prestigious briefcase. We absolutely can’t forget about the dream match that was years in the making in John Cena vs. AJ Styles. That, along with the traditional Money in the Bank ladder match is enough to sell this event.

WWE must follow through on their sales pitch of the best Money in the Bank they have ever produced. And in order for that to stick, there should be some twists and turns to leave fans coming back for more and willing to tune into Raw for the fallout. While anything can happen in the WWE, here are some ideas that can happen on Sunday.

5. Double turn for Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns

Natural course

I’ll start with this one first. This would surprise fans that WWE would actually go through with this part. Seth Rollins, no matter how much hate and disdain he spews, is getting major babyface reactions.

Roman Reigns is continuing to fight the losing battle of winning the hardcore fans over. This would be a blessing in disguise for both men, as we are seeing fans rebel against WWE’s efforts since Rollins’ return last month. WWE shouldn’t fight this anymore, they should just let it happen and see where it goes. I think it will do both men huge favors.

4. The Club captures WWE Tag Team Championships

The WWE might have bitten off more than they can chew with the stacked tag team division

Money in the Bank could very well be the night of The Club. If so, it would start with a surprising win for Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson. The two men had monumental success in Japan, though the casual fan wouldn’t know due to the way they have been booked as a tag team recently. Stealing a Championship win would elevate the team further, and put The Club as a menacing stable. Should AJ Styles get a victory over John Cena, it could very well be The Club’s greatest night.

3. Becky Lynch turns on Natalya

Main event spot long overdue

Right now, the focus is on Charlotte and her treatment of Dana Brooke. Brooke is more so Charlotte’s lackey and sidekick, doing Charlotte’s dirty work since she banished her father Ric Flair.

But what if it is a ploy all along and Becky Lynch throws everyone off by attacking Natalya at some point of their time out in the ring? Lynch needs a new direction, so this makes for an excellent plot twist. This would be a good story going into SummerSlam, should these ladies end up on the same brand after next month.

2. AJ Styles Defeats John Cena via a Superstar Debut

What say, John?

This is the match that everyone wants to see. It is the former face of TNA versus the Face of WWE. It has been talked about for years, and folks it will happen in Vegas Sunday night. It will be a battle, and when there is a high profile match of this magnitude Cena will show up to work.

This has the makings of a continued feud into SummerSlam, and that will happen for sure when Styles gets an upset victory over Cena. If Gallows and Anderson win the Tag Championships followed with a Styles win, The Club will own Money in the Bank.

However, as Styles is the heel, it shouldn’t be clean. WWE let Kevin Owens get a surprising, clean victory over Cena last year. This shouldn’t happen in the first matchup between Styles and Cena. A distraction from someone else could do it.

There has been much speculation that it could very well be NXT Superstar Finn Balor, since he has ties with all three men as part of the Bullet Club in NJPW. While this would be welcomed by many fans, a real twist would be someone else who joins The Club.

Samoa Joe comes to mind, however, he has the NXT Championship. Whoever it could be, it would be a great way to weave in not only The Club domination, but weave in NXT with the upcoming brand extension. Several factors could be at play with this matchup.

1. Dean Ambrose wins and successfully cashes it in on Sunday

Opening segment of RAW

When Dean Ambrose made the bold statement of possibly winning it all on Sunday, a majority of fans roared in approval in the arena and all over social media. Surely many remember the night he captured the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Seth Rollins two years ago. The crowd reaction was on fire, only for the moment to be taken away by the Authority.

But this time, if Ambrose follows through on his statement, it will be even sweeter. Say if Rollins wins against Reigns Sunday night. Ambrose could cash in unexpectedly and win the gold. That leaves both Reigns and Rollins with rematch clauses.

This would be a great way to tie in the long awaited and rumored Shield triple threat match that fans want. This could work if the WWE World Heavyweight Champion is working both shows, and both men are on separate brands. Time will tell what will happen in Vegas on Sunday.
