It’s looking more and more as though we won’t be seeing Alberto Del Rio in the WWE anymore.
According to a report from Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer, Del Rio has an out clause in his WWE contract that he is intent on using. Del Rio is currently serving a 30-day suspension for violating the company’s Wellness Policy. However, his out clause allows him to leave the company even though he is currently serving a suspension. To make matters even more interesting, his real-life girlfriend and fellow WWE star Paige is also serving a 30-day suspension for violating the WWE Wellness Policy herself.
Nothing has yet surfaced on what Paige or Del Rio have tested positive for or if the two tested for the same substance. This isn’t Del Rio’s only major issue he is currently having to deal with, however, as he is currently in the midst of a nasty divorce and custody battle as well.
While Del Rio’s days in the WWE might be numbered, Paige won’t be taking her talents anywhere else anytime soon as she is currently locked up in a contract with the WWE until April of 2019. Paige has reportedly also been having ‘significant’ issues with WWE management and there have also been serious concerns about her future going forward with the company as well.
Del Rio is looking to leave the company for the second time in just two years after being fired from the company for slapping a WWE employee who made a racist remark towards him. He then took his talents to El Rey Network’s Lucha Underground for a brief run with the young promotion along with fellow WWE alumni and on-screen rival Rey Mysterio, before making his return to the WWE this past October.
The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion just hasn’t been able to keep his nose clean and was served with his 30-day suspension just 10 months later after making his return to the company. It will truly be a sad sight to see ‘Mexico’s Greatest Export’ once again depart from the WWE, but one must wonder if his relationship with the young Saraya-Jade Bevis (Paige) is now impacting his career in a negative way.
