While Alberto Del Rio is not part of the WWE machine anymore, it does not mean current, and former company Superstars won’t be attending the opening of his restaurant in San Antonio, Texas.
A story on kens5.com in San Antonio has revealed that Del Rio’s restaurant, La Cantinita, is set to open for business on Thursday, and will feature special guests like Del Rio’s fiancée, Paige and former WWE superstars, Chavo Guerrero Jr. and Rey Mysterio.
Del Rio left WWE, on September 9th of this year, after he and the company came to terms on his release. His departure also followed a 30-day suspension for violating the company’s wellness policy. At the time of the suspension, Paige was also suspended and is currently serving a second suspension for another wellness policy violation in October.
She is also dealing with a neck injury that has kept her out of action.
An international wrestling star, Del Rio is a seven-time world champion. He has held both the WWE Championship and WWE's World Heavyweight Championship twice, as well as the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship, the WWL World Heavyweight Championship and the AAA Mega Championship, once each.
Del Rio also won the 2011 Royal Rumble and the 2011 Money in the Bank ladder match. This feat makes him the only wrestler to win both titles in the same calendar year.
The night after the Rumble match, Del Rio announced he wanted to face Edge for the World Heavyweight Title. However, he was unsuccessful in his WrestleMania XXVII match with Edge. Del Rio used his Money in the Bank contract, to cash in on CM Punk’s title after he successfully beat John Cena at SummerSlam and won the undisputed WWE championship.
Del Rio was fired from WWE in 2014, after an altercation with a company employee but returned as the surprise opponent for John Cena, and his United States Title at Hell in a Cell in 2015. Del Rio joined forces with Zeb Colter to form an ill-fated alliance that was short-lived.
Del Rio beat The United States Champion in what amounted to a squash match because Cena was going to leave the company to pursue other interests. Del Rio lost the United States Title to Kalisto in a 2-out-of-3 falls match at Fastlane.
