What’s the story?

WWE Raw superstar Elias recently sat down with former WWE World Champions Edge and Christian on their E&C podcast. During the interview, Elias shared a very interesting story regarding John Cena and how the 16-time World Champion helped one of WWE’s most up and coming stars.

In case you didn’t know…

Elias was signed by WWE way back in 2014 under the company’s developmental territory, better known as NXT. During his NXT tenure, Elias was a mid-card superstar at best, however, the former “Drifter” did compete in some high profile matches against the likes of Finn Balor, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Kassius Ohno, which eventually turned out to be Elias’ last match on NXT before he was called up to the main roster.

Upon his call-up to the main roster, Elias has elevated and proved himself to be one of the most entertaining superstars in the company today. Elias has also engaged into numerous feuds on the main roster so far, against some of the top superstars in WWE, such as the likes of Finn Balor, Dean Ambrose, and John Cena.

The heart of the matter

During his latest appearance on the E&C show, Elias stated that upon his call-up to the main roster, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon immediately asked him to drop “The Drifter” gimmick. However, Elias claimed that the term ‘Walk with Elias’ seemed to perfectly work out for him on the main roster, as ‘WWE’ and ‘Walk with Elias’ are right in line with each other.

Additionally, Elias also recalled a backstage altercation with John Cena, where he apparently told the leader of The Cenation that the term WWE supposedly stands for ‘Walk with Elias’.

I remember I said it backstage to John Cena. He was going off about the WWE Universe and the WWE this and that, and I said ‘Hey John, do you know what WWE stands for? It stands for 'Walk with Elias.’ He said, ‘My head just exploded in 10 different ways, man. That is great!’

Furthermore, the 30-year-old also claimed that it was initially John Cena who asked Elias to use the ‘WWE stands for Walk with Elias’ term during his in-ring promos.

What’s next?

Elias’ next task will be to step inside the grueling Elimination Chamber structure along with five other superstars, come 25th February 2018.

Author’s Take

I believe Elias has been highly entertaining during his main roster run in WWE and still has a long way to go.
