What's the story?
Over the last few days, several matches have been teased for John Cena at WrestleMania 35 in April of this year. Superstars like the Velveteen Dream, Daniel Bryan and others on a poll on WWE.com were listed as potential opponents for Cena.
Prowrestling.com ran a story with tweets from Elias where The Drifter teased a potential match with one of his foils at WrestleMania 35.
In case you didn't know...
When Elias was still a heel, he had interactions with Cena but always lost out whenever they faced each other. Whether it was on an episode of Raw or at a show, Elias always came up short.
He has since become a face but still seems to harbor some resentment to Cena. Elias doesn't currently have a dance partner for the Show of Shows in April, so perhaps he's now throwing his hat in the race while Cena is still an active wrestler.
The heart of the matter
The report from Prowrestling.com mentions a story they ran from WWE.com that had a video of potential 'dream matches' for Cena at WrestleMania 35. Among the wrestlers were Braun Strowman, Drew McIntyre, Rey Mysterio, Brock Lesnar and the Velveteen Dream.
A report from Slice Wrestling yesterday also revealed that discussions for a WWE Championship match between Daniel Bryan and Cena were also being discussed by WWE officials. With WrestleMania season heating up, Elias apparently threw his name into the hat for a match with John Cena in April when he said 'My moment is coming'.
It appears that this year, getting a match with John Cena at WrestleMania is the new version of people challenging The Undertaker for a huge match at the Show of Shows.
What's next?
With so many names being thrown out as potential foes for Cena at WrestleMania 35, it appears WWE is at least trying to keep Cena in the minds of fans since he will soon depart to start filming a movie this week.
He will be in the Royal Rumble match and whatever happens on Raw and in the Rumble might help clear up just what is in store for Cena and all of his suitors.
Elias is certainly deserving of a marquee match in April, and one with Cena would certainly be enticing for fans of either man.
