Goldust surprisingly interrupts John Cena on Raw this week

What's the story?

WWE's Mike Rome spoke with Goldust after his loss to John Cena on Monday Night Raw this week. During the interview, Goldust would give a lot of praise towards John Cena.

In case you didn't know...

September 13th this year will mark the 30th anniversary of Goldust's debut in professional wrestling. He got his start in 1988 with Championship Wrestling from Florida before signing with WCW just after Ted Turner purchased it from Jim Crockett.

The heart of the matter

While Cena was cutting a promo regarding his decision to use his free agent status to his advantage and get in the WWE Championship match at Fastlane this Sunday, Goldust surprisingly interrupted. After cutting his own promo, Goldust sucker punched Cena to create the match on Monday.

Rome asked Goldust what was going through his mind as he challenged John Cena for the very first time on Raw this week. Goldust mentioned there was nothing like being at the top of the card for WrestleMania, and provoking Cena into a match was Goldust's way to try to get there one last time.

Goldust would call Cena "pretty frickin' phenomenal" and that it is "unbelievable the legacy he has left" in the WWE. In the end, Goldust said about losing to Cena, "it wasn't enough, and when it's not enough, I'm not happy."

What's next?

It is unknown what road is going to lead Goldust to WrestleMania, but you can probably expect him in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal. There are rumors that a new team will challenge The Bar for the WWE Raw Tag Team Championships at WrestleMania, and possibly Goldust is a part of that team.

Author's take

It was great to see Goldust surprise everyone and interrupt John Cena last night. It was a different and unique moment. At the age of 48, Goldust still gets a lot of cheers from the WWE Universe, and they were even chanting his name at the WWE Live event I attended last month.

I really think there is something with Goldust and Mandy Rose, and if they break her away from Absolution, that is an avenue that is definitely worth pursuing. Either way, it's great to see more of Goldust on WWE television as of late.
