What’s the story?
Per PWInsider, Matt Hardy has now acquired the trademarks for multiple key terms pertaining to the Broken gimmick.
Hardy now owns said trademarks, in what comes as a major development in his deal with Impact Wrestling’s parent company over the Broken Universe.
In case you didn’t know…
Matt Hardy, his wife Ruby, son Maxel, father-in-law Senor Benjamin, and brother Jeff enacted the Broken gimmick in Impact Wrestling back in 2016—an act that was considered to be one of, if not the, best of 2016.
Nevertheless, the Hardys parted ways with Impact Wrestling in early 2017 and returned to the WWE in April of last year. Matt Hardy was embroiled in a legal dispute with Anthem Sports & Entertainment (Impact Wrestling’s parent company) for the better part of 2017.
The heart of the matter
As we’d previously reported, Matt Hardy and Anthem reached a settlement over the intellectual property usage rights of the Broken gimmick, in January of this year.
In hot pursuit of the same, it’s now being revealed that Matt Hardy now officially owns the trademarks for Broken Matt, Brother Nero, Broken Brilliance and Vanguard1.
Furthermore, the vast majority of professional wrestling industry experts believe that although Hardy has been portraying the ‘Woken’ Matt character in the WWE over the past few months, with the aforementioned trademarks now in his arsenal, Matt is expected to transition from ‘Woken’ to ‘Broken’ in the WWE sooner rather than later.
What’s next?
Matt Hardy is presently involved in a feud with ‘The Eater of Worlds’ Bray Wyatt on Monday Night RAW. The WWE is apparently impressed with Hardy’s portrayal of the Woken/Broken gimmick, and are expected to continue to accord him a significant position as a mid-card Superstar in the near future.
