John Cena returned on Monday Night Raw but was interrupted by a certain Drifter

What's the story?

Cena returned to WWE Raw on December 25, 2017, opening the show to wish the fans in attendance a Merry Christmas. It wasn't'long, however, until a certain troubadour made his way to the ring to rain on Cena's parade.

In case you didn't know...

John Cena has been sparingly used since his loss to Roman Reigns at No Mercy. He wasn't seen again until Survivor Series where he was eliminated by Kurt Angle. The 16-time World Champion has been busy promoting his new animated movie, Ferdinand.

The heart of the matter

On Monday Night Raw, John Cena came out to welcome the WWE Universe to a very special Christmas edition of Raw. The Leader of the Cenation wouldn't be alone too long, however, as Elias quickly came out to sing about his hatred for Chicago.

Showered in CM Punk chants, Elias assaulted Cena and called for a ref. After seeling for long periods, the Massachusetts native got the win after a routine comeback and an AA.

What's next?

Cena is scheduled to appear at Madison Square Garden tomorrow night for WWE's annual post-Christmas event. The Face that Runs the Place looks to challenge Intercontinental champion Roman Reigns, as he tries to capture one of the few belts he has yet to win in his illustrious career.

Author's take

It's pretty great to see Cena come in and help keep Elias around the top of the card. From having matches with Finn Balor to the Shield members and Strowman, Elias is having matches week in and week out with high mid-card and main event talents.

The fact that he's rubbing shoulders with some of Monday Night Raw's elite shows that Vince McMahon has plenty of faith in the NXT product.
