What's the story?
The world rejoiced when Goldberg was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. However, they were puzzled when they found out that he would be inducted by Paul Heyman, a man who's not really been a huge part of Goldberg's career.
Paul Heyman caught up with DigitalSpy.com and revealed that he was inducting Goldberg because Goldberg specifically asked for it. We thank NoDQ for the heads up.
In case you didn't know...
Goldberg first rose to prominence as the face of WCW during the Monday Night Wars, embarking on an undefeated streak that made him the hottest wrestler in the whole promotion.
He had a short-lived run in WWE as well during 2003-2004 but did not really fare too well. It was his second run, from late 2016 to WrestleMania 33, that really brought Goldberg into the limelight once again.
Heyman and Goldberg did work together during this second run, but he was still a surprising pick.
The heart of the matter
Paul Heyman was outspoken about why he was chosen to induct Goldberg:
I am inducting Goldberg because that was Bill Goldberg’s specific request to WWE. Bill Goldberg personally requested that I induct him into the Hall of Fame. I have such respect for Goldberg as so far the one person who has truly taken the fight to Brock Lesnar in WWE.
He went on to specify why he has such supreme respect for Goldberg:
I also got a chance to witness him behind the scenes as a man, a husband, a father and I have the utmost respect for him as a human being and am honoured to be the one to encapsulate this moment for him and be the one to formally induct him into the Hall of Fame.
What's next?
The Hall of Ceremony is part of the proceedings at WrestleMania week. Goldberg will get his due in the WWE Hall of Fame. Paul Heyman will deliver a speech, as only he really can!
Author's take
I would have preferred to see someone like Sting or Booker T induct Goldberg. However, I guess Goldberg was insistent on the oratory skills of one Paul Heyman.
And what a speech it will be when Goldberg gets inducted into the Hall of Fame!
