What's the story?

Brock Lesnar has been a part of the WWE for a long time, and during his first run with the WWE, he was one of the biggest draws for Vince McMahon's wrestling promotion.

Before departing the WWE in 2004, Lesnar had a feud with Goldberg, following which both of them left the company. But right before that match at WrestleMania XX, Lesnar was in a feud with Eddie Guerrero which culminated at No Way Out.

In case you didn't know...

At the 2004 edition of No Way Out, Eddie Guerrero won his first and only WWE Championship title when he defeated Lesnar, following interference from Goldberg.

Guerrero then went onto defend his title at WrestleMania XX in an incredible match against Kurt Angle, while his friend, Chris Benoit won the World Heavyweight Championship later that night.

The heart of the matter

Speaking about the No Way Out match, Bruce Prichard, who was a writer and producer in the WWE, spoke about the emotions backstage following Guerrero's historic win, in his podcast, Something To Wrestle.

"So, when it came to reality and their guy (Guerrero) just defeated (Lesnar), a classic David vs. Goliath, you just felt it. He immediately went into the audience, went to his mother. We were crying backstage. It was one of those special moments where you have an idea and it’s executed better than I even imagined.

"It was a standing ovation. There were hugs and tears all around. Vince was crying. He was very emotional because it was magical. Everyone believed there was a happy ending. Brock came back and it was one of the best matches he ever had in his life, he was so thankful. Every once in a while a good guy wins, and that’s what happened in this night," said Prichard. What's next?

15 years on from that historic match, Brock Lesnar will defend his Universal title at WrestleMania 35 against Seth Rollins!
