WWE News: Roman Reigns is the new Number 1 contender for The WWE Universal Championship

Reigns took down Owens with a spear to get a shot at the WWE Universal Championship

Last night’s episode of Monday Night RAW emanating from Charlotte, North Carolina set a few events in motion. Sasha once again captured the Women’s Championship; Slick Ric returned to Flair country, and Roman Reigns found his way back to the Universal Championship picture.

Owens has been somewhat of a fighting champion, defending his title on numerous occasions, albeit with some help from best friend, Chris Jericho. Last week on RAW, he successfully defended the title against Seth Rollins when Jericho interfered in the matchup and helped him pick up the win.

Last night, Jericho started the show with Owens following his best friend. While they were going on about their friendship, Roman Reigns made his way down to the ring. What followed, was a segment with Reigns mocking the WWE Universal Champion about how he could not get the job done without the help of Chris Jericho.

The shots fired by Reigns at Kevin’s expense seemed to take a toll on the Champion as he yelled at Chris Jericho and told him to shut up when the latter was about to add Reigns to the “List of Jericho”. It looks like some cracks are developing in that friendship.

Reigns and Owens were booked for a match later in the night, with the stipulation that if Roman picked the win on Owens, he would get a shot at the title at Roadblock: End Of The Line.

The match was as good as any with a lot of back and forth action, but finally, Reigns ‘reigned supreme’ as he took down Kevin Owens and guaranteed himself a shot at the Universal title at the upcoming RAW pay per view. Earlier Rollins had taken out Jericho, which meant that Owens had to fend for himself against ‘The Guy’.

Unlike the crowd at Survivor Series, the WWE Universe in Charlotte were gunning for Roman to pick up the win. In fact, Owens and Jericho were greeted with a chorus of boos while Roman was cheered on during the match.

Roman Reigns will now go on to challenge Kevin Owens for the Universal Championship at WWE at the RAW exclusive pay per view, Roadblock: End Of The Line on December 18th in Pittsburgh, PA.

Here are some highlights of the match:
