Baron Corbin did not come up from the independents like a lot of superstars in NXT did. And this earned him the ire of the smart fans because truthfully, he was a step behind a lot of the independent talent in NXT back in the day. But he's learned on the job and today; I would say that he's just as good as anyone in the roster when it comes to the WWE style, which is not necessarily as fast-paced as the independent style.

Corbin is a big man who does not wrestle like a monster but as a big, tough guy. He can make anyone he steps into the ring with look good, and holds his own against the best 'workers' that WWE has to offer, in a sense. Most importantly, he is always a cocky and annoying character, and always gets a reaction from the crowd, which is imperative when it comes to advancing a storyline.
Corbin may not always have the match of the night like say an AJ Styles or a Seth Rollins will, but he will always have a good match and that's enough to be a worthy candidate to be this year's King of the Ring.
