WWE RAW: 5 talking points of the show

RAW this week struck the right note after a successful Payback pay-per view by hitting us with surprises and returns we least expected. Though a Punk, Lesnar feud looked very likely, Mark Henry’s retirement speech was one that was played very well. WWE managed to make up to all the regrets of its previous RAW and did good enough to carry on with the momentum that Payback created. With several new twists and turns, The Money in the Bank PPV looks intriguing already. Let us now look at the talking points of RAW this week.

1. Mark Henry’s fake retirement speech

Undoubtedly the best prank WWE and a wrestler has played on its fans. Hours after Payback, Mark Henry posted tweets that indicated him retiring. With the recent misunderstanding between WWE and Henry most fans fell for this tweet and the internet was abuzz with articles and opinions about Henry’s retirement. Little did they realize that Henry was out trolling everyone. John Cena was in the ring on RAW and speaking about how he will step up every time a challenge is put forth in front of him. Mark Henry comes out and speaks of how John Cena has become the best in the business and how he has overtaken Henry’s success despite Henry being in the WWE for a long time. The crowd gets into emotional chants praising Henry only to realize that Henry had not come out to retire but make a statement. Fans and Cena were stunned by the sudden attack on the Champ and this now brings forth an excellent feud for the month. Will Cena overcome all odds again and beat Henry in MITB to establish his hold as the next man of steel.

2. Christian Returns on RAW

This was one return we have been waiting for quite sometime. Right from Royal Rumble there was talk of Christian returning and according to news backstage despite Christian being fit to wrestle, WWE wanted him to return on the perfect moment. Christian looked in perfect shape when he returned and despite a little ring rust, he did great to win a match against Barrett. Looks like the MITB match has a sure shot contender in Christian.

3. Brock Lesnar attacks CM Punk

Lesnar attacked Punk this week as he was in a match with Del Rio. Del Rio walked out of the match and was attacked by Ziggler, as Punk was dejected inside the ring out came Lesnar. Lesnar put Punk to sleep with an f5 and walked away. Punk and Heyman’s relationship looked in jeopardy right from the beginning of the match in Payback and ever since it was likely that this was going to happen. The question that people are asking is whether this was Heyman’s doing or did Lesnar find it right to give Punk a good lesson. Next week will tell us just enough.

4. Alberto Del Rio confirms his heel turn

Del Rio who looked absolutely unkind as he bashed a seemingly injured Ziggler to retain his title in Payback. Del Rio’s heel turn was almost complete in that match and he put away all doubts away on RAW this week after his promo in the opening segment of the show. Del Rio called the crowd pigs and cowards to generate enough heat which was enough to know that he had turned heel. Del Rio later showed excellent heel attitude as he slithered in and out of the ring during the Punk match. Frankly, Del Rio is best when he is a heel and I’m looking forward to this feud between the two as Ziggler as a face looks a very interesting prospect.

5. Antonio Cesaro’s alliance with Zeb Colter

Cesaro who seemed down and out after losing his United States title has now found his way back into the ring after Zeb Colter has considered him his latest client. Colter who did a great job with Jack Swagger had to get out of that storyline courtesy Swagger’s DUI act. Colter’s alliance with Cesaro is an excellent thing mainly because it will help bring Cesaro out to the main picture and show us how talented he is. Despite his impressive run as the United States champion, WWE found it wise to pull him out and stop his run abruptly. I’m however, glad now that WWE is realizing the potential of this wrestler and trying to do something constructive with him.
