WWE Roadblock 2016 result predictions and full match card analysis

Reigns goes for the second belt this Sunday night

The last pay-per-view stop of WWE before Royal Rumble comes this weekend at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The arena will host Roadblock on Sunday night and there are many things in the show worth looking forward to.

The show will be headlined by Kevin Owens and Roman Reigns as they lock horns for the WWE Universal championship. Reigns has the chance to be a double champion thanks to the stipulation for this match, and this would be the major talking point of the night as well.

The Charlotte – Sasha Banks saga will also get what might possibly be its’ final chapter at the show.

Roadblock offers some exciting undercard showdowns as well and we are going to take a look at the matches and come up with predictions

#1 Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns (WWE Universal championship)

Reigns could be a double champion

The wrestling fans will be eagerly tuning into this match due to a variety of reasons.

First of all, Roman Reigns could become a double champion in WWE. The rumours linking him to a confrontation with UFC Lightweight champion Conor McGregor have gathered attention from everywhere.

However, Reigns winning would also have a huge impact in the WWE as fans on either side of the decision would probably break the internet.

Secondly, the subplot of Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens would come into play as well. The most probable outcome here is Jericho interfering and costing Owens his championship. This way, WWE could make Reigns the champion and kick off a Jericho – Owens feud.

The title reign of Owens has been a disaster for the most part and ending it at Roadblock could actually be a good thing. Rumours also suggest the same, so this may be what eventually happens.

Prediction: Roman Reigns wins

#2 New Day vs. Cesaro and Sheamus (WWE Tag Team championships)

Time to freshen things up

The record-breaking champions New Day will once again defend their championships against Cesaro and Sheamus at Roadblock. The Cesaro and Sheamus tag team has been winning fans for quite some time now and the only path ahead for them would be to win the Tag team championships.

There isn’t much that these two could contribute to the division apart from winning the gold and freshening things up a bit. Now that New Day has broken Demolition’s record it wouldn’t be a bad idea to take the championships away from them as they would still be projected as strong contenders in the division thanks to their lengthy reign.

Prediction: Cesaro and Sheamus win

#3 Braun Strowman vs. Sami Zayn

Zayn has a point to prove

The importance of this match has skyrocketed thanks to the promo that Mick Foley gave this past week on Raw. The emotional and intensity boost is just what it needed and Sami goes into the match as the underdog.

It should be noted that he is someone that excels when it comes to playing such roles and with a monster like Strowman against him, Zayn could steal the show even in defeat.

A clean win for either of the parties is probably not going to happen. Zayn getting destroyed by Strowman could be a possible outcome but at the same time, WWE will depict Zayn for being the resilient warrior that he is.

Prediction: Braun Strowman wins

#4 Rich Swann vs. TJ Perkins vs. Brian Kendrick (WWE Cruiserweight championship)

The three-way battle for the title

The Cruiserweight division will be under the spotlight when WWE rolls out this triple threat match at Roadblock. All three men know what it is like to have the gold around their waist and this is what makes the match interesting.

Despite the launch of 205 Live and the slow progressions that the division has been making, we are still in a state of ambiguity when it comes to the Cruiserweight division. Keeping them separate from the roster and not giving proper character development have been issues that WWE are yet to address.

This triple threat match would be another step towards making the division better and WWE should avoid making the title look like a hot potato by keeping it on Swann for the time being.

Prediction: Rich Swann retains

#5 Chris Jericho vs. Seth Rollins

Rollins could step out of the shadow

This match might not hold much significance in the longer run, but it would be a good platform for both Seth Rollins and Chris Jericho to showcase what they are capable of. Rollins has been playing second fiddle to Roman Reigns for quite some time now and this could be the final chapter of Rollins being overshadowed.

With the latest spell of Jericho in the WWE almost over, WWE wouldn’t mind giving him a loss in order to make Rollins look strong and as an unhappy Jericho could come in handy later in the show, it makes a lot of sense for Rollins to get the win in this one.

Prediction: Seth Rollins wins

#6 Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte (Iron Man match for Women’s championship)

Time to steal the show again

A few months back an Iron-Man match between Sasha Banks and Charlotte would’ve been met with rave responses. But due to WWE overdoing the rivalry, the match has received a mixed response from the fans.

The fact that this takes 30 minutes of the pay-per-view is a good thing. The stipulation also adds drama to the situation.

With the pay-per-view streak of Charlotte in place, we are likely to see another title change on Sunday night. It will draw criticism but it would be great if we could appreciate what Sasha and Charlotte are going to do in the ring by keeping away all the drama that surrounds it.

Prediction: Charlotte wins

#7 Big Cass vs. Rusev

Enzo will be a major factor

The whole Enzo Amore – Rusev angle that blurred the lines between a PG and non-PG product is what helps this match.

Even though it is a kickoff match, there is hype surrounding it as the segment mentioned was a hot topic of discussion in the wrestling circles. Cass might be going up against Rusev in a singles match but the presence of Lana and Enzo would be crucial.

And due to this fact, WWE might let Big Cass take this one with a timely distraction from Enzo. Rusev is highly insecure when it comes to Lana and all it would take is Enzo to go near The Ravishing Russian to disrupt the momentum of the Bulgarian Brute.

Prediction: Big Cass wins
