WWE Rumor Mill: Future plans for Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre revealed?

What's the story?

As per the rumor roundup on Cagesideseats.com, Dave Meltzer of WON has stated that after the split between former Tag Team Champions Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler, Ziggler will most likely drift down the card yet again whereas McIntyre will be pushed to the main event.

This probably means that the former World Heavyweight Champion will again become a midcard enhancement talent putting younger stars over.

In case you didn't know...

Dolph Ziggler is a grand slam champion in WWE and one of the most prominent Intercontinental Champions of the modern era.

However, Ziggler has never really been a main event star and has mostly been stuck in the midcard. Earlier this year he was drafted from SmackDown to RAW, and paired up with Drew McIntyre.

The two won the RAW Tag Team Championships together and were also involved in a lengthy feud with The Shield. However, as per the events of this past RAW, it looks like the alliance has finally come to an end.

The heart of the matter

Drew McIntyre has been in line for a massive push ever since he made his return on the main roster; however, things are looking bleak for The ShowOff now that their pairing is over.

It is my guess that Ziggler will again assume the role of the "gatekeeper", which means he will feud with newer talent coming in from NXT in order to get them over.

What's next?

With Braun Strowman currently injured, Drew McIntyre would be the perfect fit to fill in the role for the powerhouse on RAW. With great in-ring talent and mic skills, it is no wonder that the WWE officials are high on him and want to push him.

It is quite possible that we may see Drew McIntyre in the Universal Championship picture sooner rather than later.
