One of the big 4 WWE PPVs, Survivor Series, is fast approaching. The Allstate Arena in Rosemont is advertising a big 10-man traditional Survivor Series match, pitting Superstars from RAW and SmackDown Live, according to WrestlingInc.

Survivor Series and its storied history

Survivor Series has been a yearly WWE staple for around 3 decades. The show holds historical significance and was conceived around the time when WWE used to focus on four major PPVs, the other three being WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and Royal Rumble.

The idea of the PPV was to have matches pitting teams of wrestlers, under elimination rules. A number of Superstars have had legendary performances at the PPV in the past. One name that comes to mind immediately is that of Randy Orton. The Viper won the traditional Survivor Series matches for his team, three years in a row, and was the sole survivor on all three occasions!

Orton achieved this impressive feat back in the time period of 2003 to 05. Since the past few years, Survivor Series has become a battleground for RAW and SmackDown Live. The event sees Superstars of both brands taking on each other in interbrand matches. Last year, RAW made a clean sweep by winning every single match on the card against the blue brand.
