WWE Rumors: Finn Balor may take on Kevin Owens at Payback, Chris Jericho may not wrestle

Will these two NXT rivals renew their feud?

What’s the story?

According to the Rumour Roundup section of Cageside Seats, Chris Jericho is rumoured to be missing the next Raw exclusive pay-per-view Payback and instead, United States Champion Kevin Owens may take on the man who made his return on Raw in the main event last week, Finn Balor.

In case you didn't know...

Finn Balor was drafted to Raw following the last brand split, and immediately after, became the first ever Universal Champion. Sadly, he had to relinquish his Championship due to an injury. Balor made his comeback on Raw this past week, replacing a (kayfabe) injured Jericho in a tag team match with Seth Rollins, against Kevin Owens and Samoa Joe.

Balor pinned the brand new United States Champion Kevin Owens with a Coup De Grace during the match.

The heart of the matter

It is a well-known fact that Chris Jericho will be on tour with his band Fozzy through May, and this will likely cause his absence from WWE.

As a result of the same, we’re presuming that Finn Balor becomes Owens’ next challenger, considering Balor pinned Owens on Raw. Cageside Seats does not speculate as to whether this match will be for the United States Championship or not.

What’s next?

We suppose that we’ll get an idea about whether or not Balor goes for the Unites States title or goes after Brock Lesnar, considering he never really lost his Universal Championship in the next few weeks. Remember also that Kevin Owens never got his Universal Championship rematch after his loss to Goldberg.

We wonder if Chris Jericho too will ask for his rematch for the United States Championship in the coming weeks.

Author’s take

You cannot go wrong if you book a program between two talented performers like Finn Balor and Kevin Owens. Their ladder match in NXT was amazing and if they can recreate some of the same magic here, it will be a treat for all the fans watching.
