Staunch Kofi Kingston fans need not panic as the latest backstage rumors paint a promising WrestleMania picture for the New Day member.
In case you didn't know...
Kingston's dream run towards capturing his first WWE World title experienced an unexpected roadblock on SmackDown Live this week after Vince McMahon came out and replaced him with Kevin Owens. The returning Owens walked down the ramp and signed on the WWE title match contract that was originally intended for Kingston.
Kingston and Owens would team up with each other and defeat Daniel Bryan and Erick Rowan later on in the night. As things stand, The Prizefighter will go ahead and face the Champion at Fastlane, much to the frustrations of the fans and Kingston.
However, this is predictably just all part of the big plan.
The heart of the matter
It was revealed last week that WWE was planning on getting back a superstar who was not on the roster to face Bryan at WrestleMania 35. The names that popped up had included Undertaker, John Cena, Batista, Bray Wyatt, Sami Zayn and the man who eventually got the spot, Kevin Owens.
Plans were changed last week and McMahon decided to have Owens vs. Bryan for Fastlane, according to Dave Meltzer from the Wrestling Observer. WWE had previously chalked out a plan to have Musata Ali take on Bryan at Fastlane, however, Ali's issues with a concussion ruled him out of the picture.
WrestlingNews.co additionally reports that the current plan is to have Kingston go on to face Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 35 in a singles match. Here's the best part; WWE is actually thinking about putting the title on Kofi.
WrestleMania is the perfect stage for such a feel-good story to unfold and McMahon sees the merit in that. Bryan himself gave the fans one of the most satisfying victories when he won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 30.
He is now in the opposite corner as the bad guy, looking over at a veteran in Kingston who has never gotten a fair shot at winning WWE's top prize for almost 11 years.
