Why did Sonjay Dutt leave Impact for WWE?
Why did Sonjay Dutt leave Impact for WWE?

What's the story?

PWInsider broke the news not long ago that Sonjay Dutt has departed Impact Wrestling presumably to join WWE. Cageside Seats just reported the possible reason why WWE may have recruited Dutt.

The rumour indicates that it has to do with WWE's expansion plans in India. Dutt may be a key figure in those plans.

In case you didn't know...

Sonjay Dutt is one of the names that immediately comes to mind when you think of TNA's X-Division. In fact, Team Sportskeeda was in attendance live when Dutt won the X-Division Championship in May 2017 in Mumbai, India.

WWE has significant expansion plans in India, going forward. I had a chance to catch up with Canyon Ceman, who's the Senior Director for Talent Development in WWE and he spoke about them in this exclusive interview. The possibility of a Performance Center in India and NXT India was also discussed during our conversation.

The heart of the matter

The prevailing rumour indicates that Sonjay Dutt may be brought in to WWE to start a Performance Center in the country. No further information about the kind of role he'll be involved in has been provided.

Many of you may know that Sonjay Dutt, in addition to his wrestling duties, was also involved as a backstage producer in Impact Wrestling, and was also highly involved in the creative aspect of the show.

Dutt's expertise for Impact Wrestling may come in handy if he were to be involved in the Performance Center and presumably in an upcoming NXT India brand. Mind you, this is just a rumour and not much else is known!

What's next?

We shall keep you updated as and when more information comes to light. What I can tell you for a fact is that WWE will be conducting tryouts for Indian superstars in March, in Mumbai. The shortlisted superstars could very well train at the NXT India Performance Center, in time, of course!
