One of the best things about SmackDown Live is the continuity that the brand brings to the table. Last week’s show set up three huge matches and ahead of the show this Tuesday night, there is a sense of excitement among the fans due to this. This emotion is something that Monday Night Raw has failed to evoke.
As mentioned earlier, the three advertised matches will be the major attraction of this week’s SmackDown Live. Apart from this, the fallout of what happened last week and WWE’s build up to Royal Rumble will also be featured on the show and in this list, we are going to preview the upcoming edition of Tuesday night’s SmackDown Live.
#5 Lunatic champion
Dean Ambrose became the new WWE Intercontinental champion at the expense of The Miz last week. The title change came as a surprise to many fans and the way it happened was controversial as well. Ambrose was on the verge of getting the win via disqualification but he made the referee continue the match, which in turn helped him win the title.
Miz expressed his frustration on Talking Smack after SmackDown and to add salt to his wounds, Maryse was fined for slapping Renee Young.
An explosion from Miz and Maryse is what we could expect and as the former is not in good terms with Bryan, he could even demand a move to Monday Night Raw. Alternatively, WWE could even set up the in-ring debut of Renee Young, as the rumour mill has been buzzing about it for a long time now.
#4 Natalya and Nikki has a score to settle
The Natalya – Nikki Bella relationship suffered some major twists and turns this past week on SmackDown Live. Natalya was vocal about the relationship between Nikki and John Cena and ended getting slapped by Nikki.
To settle the score, WWE booked a match between the two for this week and despite the simple storyline, the match has captured the attention of WWE fans.
Natalya has been underutilised for a long time now and a feud with Nikki helps her to make a return to the top. Nikki, meanwhile, has been going strong ever since the brand split and if she suffers a clean loss to Natalya, it would be a huge surprise.
#3 Wyatt Family hunts for gold
A couple of weeks back, Wyatt Family dropped their SmackDown Tag team titles to American Alpha. It was a well-deserved win for Chad Gable and Jason Jordan but what the fans spoke about was the potential split between Randy Orton and the Wyatt Family.
It was one of the reasons America Alpha won the title in the first place, and WWE teased it again last week during the Wyatt Family segment.
When American Alpha and the Wyatt Family fight for the gold this upcoming week, the Orton – Luke Harper situation will be interesting to watch and it should be noted that American Alpha heads into this match as the favourites.
#2 The Mystery of La Luchadora
Alexa Bliss had a small spell under the mask on last week’s SmackDown as the original identity of La Luchadora remained an unsolved mystery. Becky Lynch is still puzzled about the identity of the Superstar just like the rest of us and hopefully, we will get a hint this time around.
The association that Alexa has with La Luchadora was revealed on SmackDown this past week and now that Luchadora is under Alexa’s wing, it adds an extra layer to her ongoing title reign and at the same time stacks the odds against Becky. For the time being, most fans out there would just have one question.
Will the real La Luchadora please stand up?
#1 The hungry young lion
Baron Corbin vs. John Cena has endless possibilities. A young hungry wolf will face the poster guy of WWE and this has blockbuster return all over it. The way Corbin was thrust into the AJ Styles – Cena feud last week was impressive and Corbin now has the opportunity to prove his worth on Tuesday night.
The presence of AJ Styles is probably going to be a big factor when the match rolls out and if Baron Corbin ends up winning against Cena, AJ will have a role to play as well. Such a win would be huge for Corbin’s career and at this point, this is exactly what he wants.
