WWE SummerSlam 2016: Talking points

Lesnar leaves Orton in a pool of blood

#4 The Samoan Badass is back

This version of Roman has a new edge to him

For a long time, the most persistent problem for WWE is to book Reigns in an effective way that people would accept him. After almost two years of failed experimentation, the WWE had decided to give its fans the version of Roman they liked. But, it is two years too late. Nevertheless, we will take what we can get.

The match between Roman Reigns and Rusev never started, for Rusev attacked Roman before the bell was rung. The resulting fistfight led to the emergence of Roman Reigns – The Samoan Badass, whom we all enjoyed when he beat the living hell out of Triple H so long ago. This version of Roman looked more vicious and he had a mean streak to him that should have been showcased long back.

Whether it is a one-time incident or it spelled a slight character shift in Roman is yet to be seen. But, WWE would do well to book Roman more aggressively like he had been booked tonight. He could be in for a healthy mid-card push if he does finally get over, and if he doesn’t, a full blown heel turn after he wins the U.S. title could blow the door open for some great feuds. Heel or face, a potential feud with Kevin Owens also sounds like a tantalizing option.
