WWE SummerSlam: 4 signs that show Roman Reigns could pair up with Samoa Joe against Daniel Bryan and Rowan

This would be a dream pairing

Ever since Paul Heyman became the Executive Director of RAW, things have started to change for the better. We are being bestowed with better segments and the Roman Reigns saga is a testament to that.

It all began when Roman Reigns was about to announce his opponent for SummerSlam. As he was walking towards Kayla Braxton for an interview, a pile of scaffolding and metal fell on him.

While he walked out of it unscathed, things didn’t seem to improve for the Big Dog as the very next week on RAW, when Reigns was being confronted by Samoa Joe in the parking lot, a car rammed into his vehicle and then sped off.

Later on SmackDown, Reigns confronted Buddy Murphy and when the latter wasn’t cooperating, the Big Dog beat a confession out of him, only to find out that Rowan was the one behind the attack.

Now, with SummerSlam just days away, there is no match in place for Roman Reigns. However, reports suggest that there could be an angle in the Biggest Party of the Summer to further the storyline.

What it could be is anyone’s guess but here are four signs which suggest that Samoa Joe could pair up with Reigns in his war against Rowan and Bryan - even if it is a backstage angle or a match (which seems unlikely right now)…

#4 Joe’s concern

As mentioned earlier, a vehicle rammed into Reigns car when he was being confronted by Samoa Joe. As soon as that happened, Joe – a heel – started showing signs of a face turn as he displayed genuine concern for the Big Dog.

He was shouting for a medic to come forward and check out on Reigns while also ordering the Big Dog to stay down inside his car until help arrived. The Samoan Submission Machine is a savage heel and using him like that in that segment certainly points towards keeping the options open.

#3 Reigns’ apology

RAW last week began with Samoa Joe demanding an apology from Roman Reigns and he got just that a day later on SmackDown Live.

Soon after it was clear that Samoa Joe was not the one behind the attacks on Roman Reigns, the Big Dog issued a sincere apology to Samoa Joe, saying:

“I know he [Joe] is not, he was there last night. He wasn’t the attacker, Samoa Joe. I feel like I should publicly apologize to him. Joe, I’m sorry, man. I didn’t mean for you to have your name dragged through the mud. You are not a part of this whole situation for sure. I apologize.”

While Samoa Joe and the Samoan named Joe have been at each other’s throats in the last few weeks, Reigns’ words certainly cools the heat between them. The two have now made peace between themselves and that has paved the way for the two to team up against Daniel Bryan and Rowan.

Whether it comes in the form of a match at SummerSlam or just a backstage confrontation remains to be seen but another thing that makes me feel like it could happen is…

#2 Joe’s anger at his name being thrown into the mud

When Samoa Joe was accused of being behind the incident, he didn’t like it one bit. In fact, last week’s RAW began with the Samoan Submission Machine opening the show while standing on top of the announcer’s table and demanding an apology for accusing him without evidence.

Later in the night, Joe came out to the ring stated to the crowd that he won't move from there unless he got what he wanted: an apology. When he was informed that Reigns is in the parking lot, he went there to confront and that is when Reigns was attacked by a vehicle, clearing Joe's name in the process.

Joe was asked about his thoughts regarding it and he said:

“My thoughts are, I hope somebody finds who is doing what they are doing before I find them.”

If these words… these exact words aren’t enough to make one think that Joe intends to unleash hell on the people behind the attack on Reigns, then I don’t know what is.

Why would he do that?

Because his name was tarnished due to their acts. Samoa Joe has his own agenda here because it was his name that was dragged through the mud and it wouldn’t be wrong to claim that he could look for revenge by helping out Reigns.

#1 Rowan, not Daniel Bryan, was the one named by Buddy Murphy

There were reports of Daniel Bryan being the one behind the first attack on Roman Reigns, paving the way for a match between the two at SummerSlam. It was supposed to be a singles bout between the two but the revelation of Rowan being the one behind the attack changes everything.

For starters, this can’t directly lead to a match between Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns at SummerSlam. It can, however, make way for a singles match between Rowan and Roman Reigns, but that doesn’t seem to be the direction WWE wants to head towards.

Since Daniel Bryan is still connected to Rowan, there is always going to be a 2v1 advantage for the pair over Reigns.

Also, Reigns has made an enemy in Buddy Murphy by attacking him, so even he could team up with Bryan and Rowan.

As a result, the only way to nullify that is giving Reigns a partner – and who, apart from Joe, makes more sense as Reigns’ partner in this storyline?
